in the past few years in nyc i have noticed there has been this weird vibe where liberalism has curdled into a kind of chic despair.
i’m generally such an optimistic person & i really believe the world is getting better. ppl with good intentions are building towards making it that way but a ton of convos i’ve had in manhattan turn into group therapy sessions about how everything is broken & getting worse.
it feels like so often in nyc optimism is treated like a personality flaw while pessimism seems to be the social currency.
