Chuck Lillis was a visionary and impacted the UO more than anyone in recent history. The Volcanology community at the University of Oregon benefited greatly from Chuck's vision and desire to build a cluster of excellence. Our hearts go out to the Lillis family.

Today is @BNash97 last day in the UO Sensors for Extreme Environments lab. Blake has done some amazing things in the lab and we are excited to see what he does next in graduate school in atmospheric science at UC Davis!

After having a discussion of very old rocks with Ron Frost at UW, I managed to briefly visit the Granite Mtns in Wyoming. The mountains emerge like islands from a sea of sediment.

Idaho: Basically every fire in Idaho went plume dominated today. This is the Lava Fire on the Boise National Forest. #idfire #wildfire #idwx It sounds like it may run into 2 other fires on the same Forest. This is incredible fire behavior spanning across a vast portion of Idaho. Thanks to the Substack subscriber who shared this footage of this insane column. Good luck out there!

It has been a whirlwind of meetings, field trips and volcanic discussions in the past month in Oregon starting with the Cascades24 meeting in Bend and ending with the PDC workshop in Eugene last week!

Great discussions about volcanic processes in a wonderful natural laboratory.

Excited to this out. In this paper led by @joshua_crozier we examine how an eruption can be modified by deformation and the connection between geophysics and turbulent multiphase plumes. Also illustrating the the potential of integrating many different sensor measurements.

After the GEMS measurements, there was a major escalation of the #Ruang #eruption, producing a high-level umbrella cloud. Higher SO₂ emissions are expected, with stratospheric injection likely. For reference, the 2002 #Ruang eruption emitted ~0.1 Tg SO₂. x.com/CIRA_CSU/statu…

We launched a sensor balloon for our @uoregon Earth Sciences 'Building an Atmosphere' class yesterday. After a day+night traveling across California, a little loop in the Pacific, and across Mexico we are now tracking it in Texas. @uocas #sensors
