In an effort to quiet the demands for an extra 2.5% funding, Minister Clare has given the remaining states a limit of 2 months to sign up to his deal. After September, the $16bn for school students is off the table.

NSW has been the most critical of the 2.5% funding gap, although its Education Minister Prue Car says SA, Queensland, Victoria, Tasmania and ACT ministers also agree it is not enough.
