Shaykh Sālih al-Fawzān, حفظه الله,: "So learn, and don’t just read books by yourself. No, learn from the scholars so that you can learn Islām properly. Religious people are many, but those who hold onto the correct religious understanding are few. Pay attention to this!"

A Personal Message of Gratitude & Encouragement | San Diego Community 🕌 I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude, respect, and appreciation for the brothers in San Diego. From the moment I was invited, I was received with warmth, honor, and full respect. They wholeheartedly welcomed me, entrusted me with complete teaching autonomy, and created a space that truly felt like family. By the favor of Allah, our summer study program was a beautiful success. 📖 The classes were lively, interactive, and filled with opportunities for reflection and practical conversations — especially on how to apply beneficial knowledge in our communities in the West. 📚 Over the summer, we studied: •Etiquette of Seeking Knowledge – Shaykh Bakr Abu Zayd •Important Lessons for Every Muslim – Shaykh Ibn Bāz •Thalāthatu’l-Usūl (The Three Fundamental Principles) •Etiquettes of Walking to the Masjid – Shaykh Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb •A Woman’s Guide to Raising a Family – Shaykh al-Fawzān (Sisters’ Class) It was a blessing to be part of a community rooted in sincerity, cooperation, and strong brotherhood. I’m truly grateful for the experience and look forward to continuing to support them as they work toward a vital goal: 🧱 Establishing Their Permanent Masjid The brothers are currently raising funds to purchase the land their masjid stands on and build a permanent facility. And the need is urgent. 🕌 On Fridays, space is extremely tight. Brothers are praying not only in the main musallā, but also in a second building, the kitchen, and even outside into the parking lot. Their goal is $2 million — a humble amount for California — and they need our support. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever builds a mosque seeking the Face of Allah, Allah will build for him a house in Paradise.” (Bukhārī & Muslim) Whether your donation is large or small, give sincerely — and encourage others to do the same. It all adds up. 💳 Ways to Donate: 🌐 Online: goodbricks.org/cause/markazsu… 📧 PayPal / Zelle / CashApp: markazassunnahsd@gmail.com May Allāh reward all who support a house of Allāh and make it heavy on your scale.

“Among the traits of the disbelievers is that they do not encourage the feeding of the poor, due to their love of themselves and the absence of mercy in their hearts. So whoever feels no compassion for the hungry in Gaza should reevaluate their faith. And whoever can deliver even a morsel of food to them should extend their hand to do so, for their need for it is just like his own. The Prophet ﷺ said: ‘Are you granted provision and victory except by way of your weak and poor ones?’”

Indeed, we belong to Allāh, and indeed to Him we shall return. Shaykh Dr. Rabīʿ al-Madkhalī has returned to his Lord. May Allāh have mercy on him, forgive him for his sins and shortcomings, and reward him for his lifelong service to the Sunnah and defense of the religion. We ask Allāh to make his grave spacious, to fill it with light, and to raise him among the righteous. May Allāh grant patience to his family, students, and all who loved him. Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rājiʿūn.

The world is full of differences, and everyone claims to be upon the truth. Some people are simply more eloquent in presenting their argument than others, and this can cause matters to become confusing for a person. How much, then, do we need the guidance of Ar-Raḥmān (the Most Merciful)! So be diligent in making abundant du‘ā, asking Allāh to guide you to the truth in matters where people differ. Abū Salamah ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf said: I asked ʿĀ’ishah, the Mother of the Believers: “With what would the Prophet ﷺ begin his prayer when he stood for night prayer?” She replied: “When he would rise for prayer at night, he would begin with: ‘O Allāh, Lord of Jibrīl, Mīkā’īl, and Isrāfīl, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the seen. You judge between Your servants regarding that wherein they differ. So guide me, by Your permission, to the truth in that which they differ. Indeed, You guide whom You will to the straight path.’”

Among the foundational principles of Ahl al-Sunnah when widespread tribulations occur are: Maintaining silence, referring matters back to those qualified, and increasing in du’ā, worship, seeking forgiveness, and sincere repentance.

Don’t let current events distract you from your worship. Be mindful not to abandon your daily portion of Qur’an or adhkār in the pursuit of following the latest news. Know this: during times of tribulation and widespread heedlessness, the reward for righteous deeds increases. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Worship during times of chaos is like migrating to me.” So if you’ve missed the reward of migrating from Makkah to Madinah, don’t miss the reward of worship during times of trial, confusion, and heedlessness.

Shaykh Ibn Bāz (رحمه الله) said: “It is essential for the Muslim dāʿī (caller to Islam) to invite people to the entirety of Islām, without causing division among them or blindly following a particular madhhab, tribe, shaykh, or leader. Instead, his goal should be to uphold and clarify the truth, and to establish the people upon it — even if that truth opposes the opinion of so-and-so or such-and-such person.” [Words of Advice Regarding Daʿwah, p. 32]

A companion of virtue today is like hard currency: rare and invaluable. Among the beautiful sayings of the Umayyad caliph Hishām ibn ʿAbd al-Malik (d. 125 AH): “Nothing remains of the worldly pleasures except a brother with whom I lift the burden of taking precaution between me and him.” (Tabaqāt al-Nassābīn, p. 31) “Lifting the burden of taking precaution” means a bond so pure that there’s no fear, hidden agendas, or need to filter words. Completely free of suspicion. Just sincere trust, love, and honesty. Note: Hishām ibn ʿAbd al-Malik was a Umayyad caliph with access to power, wealth, and worldly luxuries. Yet here, he reflects that among all the pleasures he experienced, only one truly remains meaningful: a close brother or friend with whom there is complete trust, so much so that there’s no need to take precautions.
