So glad someone asked 🤓 So the shape to Goyang’s stadium plays a huge role in this. Sound waves move in concentric circles from source in ripples. So when you’re inside the stadium, sound starts moving away from its sources aka the speakers and the crowd, getting absorbed into air etc and it gets lost. And there’s 2 natural phenomenon that occurs within your own body as you’re part of the crowd that mutes or silences your auditory pick up. One is bc your auditory capacity has a ceiling. Once the noise around you hits that ceiling, even when it gets louder you can’t perceive it. It becomes muddled to you. It’s a neural silencing. 2nd, is the Lombard effect or the shouting reflex. Basically, we have an involuntary reflex where when our surroundings get louder, we automatically start raising our voices. That’s what’s happening when you’re inside the stadium. The speakers are loud. The crowd is loud. You’re trying to get louder. And that distracts you from perceiving how loud everything is. But outside the stadium is where it gets interesting. Although, the sound is moving away from its source, there are multiple circles of sound from every speaker and human being bouncing of each other outwards, carrying the sound wave without losing its depth. And then the bowl shape of Goyang acts like a megaphone for these sound waves as they travel up and out. Then the curvature of the opening of the roof, allows the sound waves to bounce and direct outwards into various angles. So, when you are outside the stadium, sound is coming towards you as opposed to it being around you. Your background baseline is quieter than someone who is inside the stadium. And that is why those who were inside Goyang could possibly feel like “oh I didn’t think we were that loud” until you’re watching a clip or watch a pov from outside the stadium. I’m too much of a nerd for this space sometimes. But I hope this helps 💜

Season 3 dropped…ARMYS!!!!!!!!!! This is not a drill. I repeat: THIS is not a DRILL. I need everyone to be calm in a way that I myself am absolutely failing to be because… HE TEXTED. HE ACTUALLY TEXTED. 😭😱 And his message started with: “Hello, it’s Thomas, your mother’s physio…” As if I might read it and go: Thomas… Thomas… hmm… which one is that again? The mysterious duke? The orthodontist? The banker? The violinist? The horse trainer? Sir, thank you so much for identifying yourself. I absolutely might have confused you with the flood of attractive men professionally involved in stroke rehab who text me daily, all fighting for my attention. 🙄 Sir! I knew!!! Then he said he was sorry for texting a little late but he wanted to listen to the album several times first. Several. Times! Do you understand? This man did revision before contacting me. And honestly? That alone was enough to make me gently place my forehead against a nearby surface. He said he’d had a slightly different image of BTS in his mind and that he hadn’t expected this kind of sound at all, something this strong. After listening properly, he admitted it was a really good album. Friends. Please understand that I received this like a raccoon hit by a chandelier. 😳 He said there wasn’t a track he disliked. BUT…. He also said he might need some context for No. 29 because, in his words, he could tell it probably meant something and he felt like he was missing something there.…. At that point I was no longer reading. I was floating two inches above my bed like a haunted Victorian lampshade. AND THEN. Then, because apparently this man was not finished ruining my nervous system, he said maybe I could recommend other BTS albums to him. Over a drink sometime. A DRINK.😱 A small innocent beverage, casually dropped into the conversation like it did not immediately send my blood pressure to the moon…. So yes. Thomas texted. Thomas listened. Thomas liked the album. Thomas had questions. Thomas suggested a drink. And now I may have to discuss Bangtan over drinks while trying not to behave like a lantern in high wind..😬 And that, dear ARMY, was this week’s episode of “How Is This Happening to Me?” starring me, my blood pressure doing parkour, my mother in full tiny Balkan empress mode playing Cupid in compression socks and one suspiciously charming physio.
