Emotional scene tonight in Colfax as beloved boys basketball head coach Reece Jenkin, battling stage 4 cancer, returned to the gym not to coach, but to support son Adrik on Senior Night. Colfax capped an undefeated regular season and Adrik led the way with 38 points in the win.

The energy in Portland is unsettled and on the cusp of violence. Walking around briefly today I could feel the atmosphere sharpening everyone’s edges and making them snap. There’s wildfire smoke hazing the skies. It all feels off

@kevinvdahlgren How many man hours would it take to clean up this encampment? How long would it actually stay clean? We have some large abandoned encampments that are still not cleaned up on the other side of the state.

A homeless encampment in Olympia, Washington. Olympia is considered one of the most liberal cities in Washington, which is saying a lot considering there is Seattle. Over 100 acres look like this. I spoke to several homes who said the help is minimal.

@kevinvdahlgren It’s almost impossible to get people into mental hospitals. I know in WA the police pick up homeless that have been banned from all shelters and hospitals. So where do you put those people that can’t self care?

The only available housing for severely mentally ill people seem shelters. They never last more a few days and back on the streets. This is inhumane. I hate seeing these kind of things every day. We don’t have a homeless crisis. We have an addiction and mental health crisis.

My first official collaboration with journalist @choeshow from Seattle. I showed him the homeless crisis in Portland. We discussed Trump’s new executive order to reallocate funds towards a recovery based model. We believe if implemented correctly it will save thousands of lives

A sad dog tightly tethered to a no parking sign as his owner nods out in his tent. Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but I do not believe drug addicts have the right to own a pet. If you can’t take care of yourself, you shouldn’t be responsible for anything or anybody else. Period.
