On the anniversary of his assassination in northern Gaza, posters honoring 23-year-old Palestinian journalist Hossam Shabat have appeared across the streets of New York City. Shabat, a reporter for Al Jazeera and Drop Site News, had foreseen his fate, writing in his will: “If you’re reading this, it means I have been killed, most likely targeted, by the Israeli occupation forces.” Despite relentless bombardment, forced displacement, and severe hunger, he continued documenting Israeli occupation crimes in northern Gaza, determined to expose the reality on the ground until his final moments. On this day last year, Israel murdered our very dearest and bravest colleague Hossam Shabat in an airstrike in Beit Lahia, north of Gaza.
