Bruno Fernandes is one of the best midfielders of all time, but you don’t wanna talk about it…

You think Diomande or El Mala will? I think Diomande’s ceiling is like Ousmane Dembele but he never got hurt. El Mala’s is tougher - he’s got like Vini Jr gets his shot whenever he wants against whomever he wants type of ceiling, but it’s a lot narrower than Diomande’s path. Far more often it’s Moise Kean which isn’t bad, but isn’t incredible if all that makes sense

Said El Mala in 30 seconds, for those looking for info with his Chelsea links - insanely direct/vertical; always looking to take on opponents, make runs in behind - shot hunter, heads down always looking for and successfully creating angles to shoot, action volume probably over-indexes to shots over creating for others - larger for winger, pretty physical, playing as an outside forward might be a better path for his development rather than as a traditional touchline winger - he's 19 years old, extremely raw, and benefits from the space provided in the Bundesliga; please do not expect him to light the Premier League on fire from day one

@PaddyKeoghAF First time the thought has crossed my mind. This long injury isn’t ideal.

I know people massively rate de Ligt but if we got offered £40m this summer and kept Maguire on reduced wages it's an absolute no brainer

@fc_mossman Think he will go on to be one of the best wingers in the world? What’s the ceiling?

@FPLfrasier Diomande comfortably. El Mala has a specific skillset, much higher variance. Diomande is just so complete across so many important winger facets

@FPLfrasier Frankly what's more surprising is no one predicted Arsenal to win the league 😅😅

Nobody predicted United to finish top 4. Now that Bruno is dragging this team to a top 4 finish, people are surprised that he is in strong consideration for the PFA POTS 🤷🤷

The same people crying about Bruno G’s age were the ones that celebrated when we signed Hojlund for €75m instead of Kane because he’s got ‘Re-Sale Value’ & ‘Potential’

@fc_mossman Many points to discuss. Maybe another day. Interesting that you see Varane as a bad signing. I don’t see it as that bad. Donny/Antony/Mount/Sancho among many examples who were signed young but were much worse than Varane.

I understand your point about mixing experience with youth but politely I don’t think a couple examples should govern the narrative. More often than not buying aging players on big wages backfires… Bayern also signed a 30 year old Mane and 31 year old Palhinha that whiffed. Hazard to Real Madrid, Joao Cancelo to Barca, Varane to United, Pjanic to Barca, Thiago to Liverpool, the list goes on, as does the list of times it worked. The issues with the core concept of signing later prime players are that 1) if they fail, the investment cannot be recouped in any capacity (although with the Saudi league perhaps this isn’t the case as much any more) and 2) even if they succeed initially (which is more likely as they’re in their prime), towards the tail end of the contract is when it starts to become a hinderance. Take Salah for example… once the fall off happens, the wages x production becomes potentially debilitatingly skewed, and more senior players are harder to drop as they have reputations (again, Salah, Lewandowski, etc)
