@FarrellLeeds @tobypeterdavies Changes to police crime recording since ~2013-14, which have inflated crime counts (especially violence) may also be significant in terms of narrative and perceptions. The divergence with the CSEW has allowed cherry picking. twitter.com/gmhales/status…

Today I’m at #QuantCrimMCR30, where @FarrellLeeds emphasises how shockingly high crimes such as robbery and burglary were in the 1990s. “My car was broken into more times than I can remember … we were once ushered out of the Hacienda after gunfire on the dance floor.”

@LessCrime @rickmuir1 @FarrellLeeds It’s a good paper, but rather dated now. Improvements in security fit some crime types, but not all (eg violence).
