香港大埔宏福苑の大火災で現在までに159人の命が奪われ、全香港が哀悼に包まれる中、香港浸会大学の学生会は12月2日に学生会の掲示板に大きな字で「宏福苑の大火の犠牲者に深い哀悼を捧げる」「私たちは香港人です」「政府に善処し、公の要求に応え、公正が実現されることを願います」と書かれたビラを貼り、哀悼の意を示し、要望を表明しました。
しかし、大字報が貼られた翌日、学校側は今日、学生会の掲示板と隣接する民主の壁を複数のプラスチックのテープで封鎖し、両方とも近づくことを禁止し、貼られたものも近くで見ることができなくなりました。
この事件はすぐにネット上で注目を集め、多くのネットユーザーが学校側の行動に疑問を呈し
「一般人は真実を追求する権利すら失ったのですか？」とコメントしました。

去查了你所說的火災，想知道來龍去脈的可以到 youtube 查嘉利大廈，Discovery 頻道有敘述過完整的火場鑑識報告。簡述如下，96 年是香港移交前一年，嘉利大廈當時電梯井維修，焊工孫國成的火花與高溫焊塊掉落，點燃電梯井底的建築廢棄物。
在接受過英國與澳洲的獨立調查後，實證證明單純建築廢棄物或竹架無法引燃大火，並多項證據指向央企華潤集團在大廈 1-4 樓經營的中藝百貨。
中藝百貨為做生意不吵，遮蓋火災警報器使無法發聲，並將逃生間當儲存倉庫堆放易燃紙箱，而使大樓濃煙密佈造成多人喪生的禍首是中藝私自拆除防火防煙門，這些建築廢棄物的零星火花因而悶燒近四層樓的中藝百貨，調查委員會主持人 胡國興法官直斥中藝是除焊工外最大的禍首，整起事件是嚴重的人禍。
事後中藝付出高額賠償金，而原地重址現為華潤集團產權。
謝謝你讓大家想起來，香港最慘重的火災宏福苑，與香港第二慘重的火災嘉利大廈，都是中國人引起的人禍。
