🚨 Fortnite v40.20 Update
Here’s what’s coming next 👇
Epic is shipping a major systems update alongside a set of known issues to be aware of before launch.
The headline feature:
Custom Items & Inventory is moving to Beta and will be publishable.
Creators will be able to:
• Replace the default inventory system
• Create custom items with unique behaviors
• Build economies, crafting, and progression systems
• Design gameplay that reacts to player inventory
This is a big step toward deeper, system driven games in UEFN.
Now, here are the known issues coming with v40.20:
WATER + PHYSICS ISSUES
Jump input can fail inside water volumes when physics is enabled.
Dolphin jump animations may appear incorrect to other players.
MOUSE WHEEL BINDING BROKEN
Scroll wheel cannot be bound to actions like interact or movement.
It will always cycle the equipment bar regardless of settings.
ROCKET RACING RESPAWN BUG
Players may respawn with a different vehicle than selected.
Vehicle can continue changing every respawn.
OCTANE INVENTORY UI ISSUE
Inventory UI may disappear after being eliminated in an Octane vehicle.
Players can still use items, but cannot see them.
PHYSICS PROP ISSUES
Props using simulate physics with prop movers may break paths due to gravity and collision.
These props may also fail to trigger events correctly.
LEGO PICKAXE ANIMATION
Pickaxe swing animation is not playing on LEGO islands.
Fixes for most of these are targeted for v40.30 (April 30).
Big takeaway:
Custom inventory systems are a huge unlock, but there are still edge cases around physics, UI, and controls to watch for at launch.

Some time ago I started completely rework gameplay in our Forbidden Land map to add more deathrun mechanics. This map was my first creation in UEFN and I had no idea how devices work and no clue about verse :D
Now it feels completely differently but then I had to pause on it.
Hopefully soon I will be able to finish it and release!

So I did a thing.
Fully uninstalled UEFN and FN. I am taking a legit step away and having a well deserved break from FN. I have never taken anytime away from it since it was released almost 9 years of being on almost daily. Even when I said I was taking a break lmao I was still doing stuff. Mental health has been at an all time low and I am trying to pivot to things that bring me joy. For too long I have felt paralyzed in my depression and was mentally and emotionally shutting down on all levels. I cannot let it win.
So for now I am enjoying WoW, enjoying the weather outside and planning for a very special thing happening at the end of this year. 💜

Thats brilliant. I have a Spider Farmer like this one and its ace, sadly me babies are not working out at all and I have no idea. Just cannot get the balance for the autos. Its ace to be able to control it all though and also I added a web cam so I can watch my babies not doing very well :(

55yr old keyboard user for 46 years! 16+ hr days in UEFN currently. Now, after all this time, have Tennis Elbow of all things and have not been able to use my left arm for such a long time.
Keyboard is now flat and things are improving, but still.
So yes, if this can give me a few more years without pain, Ill giver it a go for sure, free or not.
Already a proud owner of the Blackwidow v4 Pro, which will be hard to part with.

Today, it was even harder to get out of bed, and it had me reflecting. As a Community Manager at Epic Games, we did it all. Rocket League was always my priority, but like many of my colleagues, I also worked on Fortnite.
So you know @FortniteStatus and @RL_Status, the accounts that escalate and help with your Fortnite and Rocket League bugs, issues, and reports? 🔧
Myself and @CatBlips (who was also impacted by these layoffs) built that entire social support process, team, and workflow from the ground up. Those Twitter/X escalations are ground zero for the Epic Games team. Issues surface on socials first, so we created a system to get them in front of the right people quickly and efficiently. Community helped prioritize urgency, triage reports, provide additional context, and support decisions around what gets patched and how fast.
It brings me some comfort knowing that the system is still there for you, the players, making sure your voices are heard. At the same time, it’s a strange feeling to be on the outside now. No longer able to help carry the weight with the team still in the trenches, but I’m proud of what we built, and I know it’ll keep making a difference. 🫶
Please be kind to @FortniteStatus and @RL_Status, there are real people behind those accounts, along with my ex Community teammates who are still showing up every day on the main channels.
They’re doing their best to keep everything moving, often under more pressure than you can see. A little patience and kindness goes a long way. ❤️🩹

Year 2 is going to be even crazier. Incredible guests already lined up and a lot more I can't share yet.

@EDMIRE2k The ecosystem doesn’t reward quality, or uniqueness, nor following the rules. In fact, it rewards the opposite, dramatically so.
Best advice, if you continue pushing for quality, take it in smaller bites, release games in beta, and achieve quality through updates, not launches.

If you want my take on UEFN experiences, yes, most of it is slop, and I agree with most of you. There is a reason us at BiomeForge have yet to release our large maps despite them being in development for a roughly year. We strive for immense quality, even though we may get nothing in return due to the algorithm.
We have been fighting with UEFN issues as a result of working on projects with high ambition for 3 years now. It has been a tug of war with epic for experiences that may never get attention outside of Twitter. We have strived for the best quality and detail possible in any UEFN experiences, yet still have never released anything as such, due to use wanting perfection, and also delays due to constant issues preventing development from progressing smoothly.
Creative and Discovery as a whole is a mess, the tools are a mess, and everyday for is stressful, riddled with issues and frustrations. Sadly, you will never see our experiences advertised outside of our socials due to how epic handles them. Yet, we persist, and will continue to develop these experiences despite these constant issues and challenges, because we promised to deliver them, and our creative visions continue to fuel our development.
All of this and I can assure you we will barely make anything from these maps, and realistically, all that matters to me, is the player has fun and remembers the experiences. That is what drives the motivation, not money.
Through all of the pain, suffering, frustration, issues, we will continue, even if its not in our best interest.
