Here’s the thing with #Allocution Allocation will be devastating to families, and the public seems to intentionally overlook this. People see these young women as victims not as the human beings they were. I see posts demanding a full allocation- people wanting to know every detail- would you want your daughter’s or sister’s or mother’s brutal murder explained in such detail before the public? It’s gross, it’s invasive. The public also does not know if #LISK is just changing his plea or if there is a plea deal- there is a difference between the two. If he is just changing his plea he may only be asked if he was advised by counsel of the implications and other qualifying questions- similar to BK. The Judge is required to ask the defendant if he’d like to make a statement. In a change of plea he isn’t required to say anything other than “guilty” If there is a plea deal- allocution (in some form) may be a part of the agreement, the judge asks questions to confirm the defendant understands the consequences of the plea and that it was made voluntarily. Then any agreed upon allocation will proceed. For one of the hearings, someone sat next to me and he was so bored by the Frye hearing that at the end he leaned over to me and said “I want to hear the juicy stuff”….I told him off… it’s beginning to feel like that moment all over again. These aren’t LISK’s Victims- they don’t belong to him, they aren’t the cause of their murders, they are young women who had their entire lives stolen from them. They belong to their loved ones. They are: Sandra, Valerie, Jessica, Maureen, Melissa, Megan, and Amber.
