The Trump Administration is attacking me for standing up for California.
But here's the thing: I won't back down from this fight.
As governor, I will bring ICE agents and their leadership to justice when they break the law.
Let's be clear: ICE is acting like a criminal organization, carrying out indiscriminate racial profiling and using violence and intimidation to terrorize our neighbors. It’s not enough for us to simply engage in rhetoric, and “stand” against ICE or Trump. We need to take on ICE directly.
As governor, I will do the following four things:
1. Stop ICE agents from racial and ethnic profiling
2. Create an investigative unit to hold ICE accountable
3. Expand criminal liability for ICE's leadership
4. Increase resources to uphold the rights of every Californian.
States have prosecuted federal agents who've overstepped their bounds since our founding. During the mid-1800s, for example, northern states opposed to the Fugitive Slave Act charged U.S. marshals for capturing or failing to release escaped enslaved individuals. And, just last week, authorities in Minnesota brought assault charges against an ICE agent.
When ICE agents use excessive force or deprive Americans of their civil rights, they are breaking the law. Period.

Seattle rejecting a BART style heavy rail system not once, but multiple times has got to be one of the greatest transit what-ifs. On the flip side MARTA in Atlanta was the prime beneficiary of those federal funds.
