My Top 10 Hair Metal Albums Of The 80s
#2
Motley Crue: Shout At The Devil (1983)
I like this album a ton. Unfortunately, I don't like anything else by them.
@OneOutOf4 I've tried and failed, but I still try to live by "if nothing nice..."
I don't talk down about artists I just straight up never mention them, except for Foo Fighters or U2.
I can’t stand Bruce Springsteen. I’d rather chew on aluminum foil than listen to him sing his over repetitive Born In The USA and preaching his liberal diarrhea at concerts.
Who’s your least favorite?
@music_ripple Led Zeppelin MSG concert poster that I bought at a record store, and a bunch of clipping and foldouts from Circus and Kerrang magazines.
Oh and there was definitely some Star Wars up there too.
I’ll be the first to admit it. As a young one (until about 14) my walls were covered with KISS posters (and one lone Aerosmith poster). So today’s question. What poster did you have hanging up on your wall as a kid or teenager? Which one and why?
@paultguitarist Introduce yourself with 10 bands you’ve seen live:
Santana
King Crimson
Yes
Motorhead
Clutch
Monster Magnet
DRI
Pink Floyd/& Roger Waters
ZZ Top
Lynyrd Skynyrd (Post-crash unfortunately, but still with key members in the 80's)
Introduce yourself with 10 bands you’ve seen live (narrowing it to 10 is going to be tough 😆)
1. Deep Purple
2. Rainbow
3. Black Sabbath
4. Dire Straits
5. Pink Floyd
6. Van Halen
7. Kiss
8. Page & Plant
9. Tool
10. Soundgarden
I love it when the song is chugging then boom, it drops out, maybe a massive drum fill, a bass run or acoustic strum before kicking off again. So today’s question. What’s your favorite mid-song breakdown? Which one and why?
@music_ripple You're killin' me!
I hate when people make lists when the question says one, but I'll be that guy today.
Clutch - Hoodoo Operator
Monster Magnet - Black Balloon
AC/DC -Badlands
Rush - Losing It
Robin Trower - For Earth Below
Anyway a few off the top of my head.
Ozzy Osbourne Album Ranking from Worst to Best
#1: Diary Of A Madman (1981)
Whenever I listen to this album, aside from my immense enjoyment of it, I find myself always getting a bit sad. Because you can HEAR the evolution happening with this band. The progression of the music from the debut to this is EVIDENT. The songs were getting a little longer. The songwriting was becoming more ambitious and Rhoads’ guitar playing was becoming more dynamic as well. So it PAINS me that we’ll NEVER hear what this band could’ve done after this. But as it stands…this is the PINNACLE of Ozzy Osbourne and his bands, in my opinion. Whenever I think of Ozzy, I think of this album. The cover, the aesthetic, the songs, EVERYTHING! This album is the PERFECT marriage of Ozzy’s image, with Rhoads and Daisley’s song writing. Making KICK ASS and slightly unhinged Heavy Metal with Ozzy’s BEST vocals ever!
‘Over The Mountian’ (spoiler alert😂) is my favorite Ozzy song OF ALL TIME! Rhoads BEST riff! The HEAVIEST of this era of the band, and Ozzy’s iconic vocals! And them going from that to ‘Flying High Again’ is just PERFECT! ‘You Can’t Kill Rock and Roll’ is RIGHT THERE with ‘Goodbye to Romance’ for my favorite Ozzy ballad! I LOVE the dark and DIRGEY aesthetic of ‘Believer’! Maybe the darkest guitar playing ever from Rhoads. But that’s also rivaled by ‘Little Dolls’😂 Both those songs have CRAZY good riffs under the verses that usually go unnoticed among Rhoads best riffs ever! ‘Tonight’ might be the only good, not great, song on the album but it’s STILL got great vocals from Ozzy. And the title track is just legendary! The culmination of the ambitious songwriting and storytelling that this band was capable of!
This album is Ozzy at his finest, Randy Rhoads at his ABSOLUTE finest, and the band just firing on ALL CYLINDERS! This is one of those albums that gets BETTER AND BETTER the more times you listen to it! Finding different things that Rhoads does with the guitar. That’s why it’s number one for me. It’s got the MOST replay value which helped push this album to the top of the mountain of this ranking (and not over it😂)
@VinnysCorner1 Just so we're clear, and I'm tired of this argument.
Paul Skenes would make Babe Ruth look like 2026 Rafael Devers on a bad night.
Babe Ruth would be on the bench in some AA San Jose team and end up back at his father's plumbing company.
It's not fair but it's not the same game.
