@RealCandaceO We probably need to enlist the army core of engineers to build ventilators and the air national quard to augment nursing and cleaning staff. But for about $150billion you get a shot at providing 500k rooms in 3 weeks and avoid the severe recession/depression we are heading for.

@RealCandaceO I personally believe there is a better approach. If we immediately pour huge dollars into mobilizing emergency healthcare facilities, and lift all quarantines in 2 weeks to allow as many people to be infected as quickly as possible, we could be over this in less than 100 days.

@RealCandaceO As a possible path to this, consider that there are over 2mm domestic hotel room held by the the 3 largest chains...they have plenty of availability . Let’s generously assume $200,000 per room for equipment and $300,000 to rent, staff, and clean the room 3x daily for 100 days.

@RealCandaceO I’m guessing that the lost tax revenue in our current approach, plus all the increased spending for stimulus and social services that will be required will far out weigh the cost of 100 days of temporary healthcare facilities if sufficient beds could be stood up in 2 to 3 weeks.

@RealCandaceO This is not about surrendering personal liberty, it’s about understanding the extent of personal responsibility required and asking the government to intervene when an insufficient number of individuals are willing to exercise the responsible actions needed to protect others.

@RealCandaceO If we don’t slow it down, the hospitals will be over capacity within weeks. Once that happens not only the people that are infected but also those requiring unrelated critical care will begin dying for lack of access to required treatment.

@RealCandaceO Slowing it down however can only be a short term fix so as not to crater our economy further than is absolutely necessary. Slowing it down will not reduce the total number of infections...it will just spread them out over a longer time and might even increase the total infected.
