🚨 Le ministre israélien de la Défense, Israël Katz, affirme que l’armée israélienne restera dans une partie du sud du Liban après la guerre. Selon lui, Tsahal établira une « zone de sécurité » jusqu’au fleuve Litani et empêchera le retour de plus de 600 000 déplacés libanais tant que la sécurité du nord d’Israël ne sera pas assurée. Il ajoute que les villages libanais situés près de la frontière seront démolis, en évoquant le « modèle de Rafah et de Beit Hanoun » à Gaza.
Israel must immediately repeal the discriminatory death penalty law passed today by the Knesset, as it contravenes Israel’s obligations under international law. The United Nations opposes the death penalty under all circumstances. The implementation of this new law would violate international law's prohibition of cruel, inhuman or degrading punishment. Additionally, this law further entrenches Israel’s violation of the prohibition of racial segregation and apartheid as it will exclusively apply to Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and Israel, who are often convicted after unfair trials. I am disappointed with the decision by the Israeli police to prevent the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem and the Christian Communities of the Holy Land from marking Palm Sunday at the Holy Sepulchre. These actions further violate the longstanding status quo of Jerusalem’s Holy Sites. People of every faith in Jerusalem should be able to worship freely, fully, and without fear. I am pleased that President Herzog has contacted the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, His Beatitude Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, to reaffirm this.
More tragedy in southern Lebanon today, with nine paramedics killed in five attacks on health care, taking the number of health personnel killed this month to 51. Seven medics were wounded in the strikes. March has been the second most deadly month for health workers in Lebanon since @WHO started monitoring attacks on health care in the country in October 2023. More than 120 health workers have also been reportedly wounded since the escalation began in Lebanon on 2 March, overwhelmingly in the country’s south. In today's incidents, teams of medics working in five Lebanese villages were struck while on duty in the field. In Zoutar al-Sharqiya, five health workers were killed in a strike and two were injured, one critically. Two more health workers were killed and three wounded in Kfar Tibnit; one paramedic died in an attack at a health facility in Ghandouriyeh, while another was killed in a strike in Jezzine. Two were wounded in an attack on Kfar Dajjal. The repeated attacks on health care are severely disrupting the delivery of services in southern Lebanon. Four hospitals and 51 primary health care centres are now closed, significantly limiting access to essential care at a time when it is most needed. Several other health facilities have sustained partial damage and are operating at reduced capacity. Health workers are protected under international humanitarian law and should never be targeted. The only way to end these tragedies is to end attacks on health care, NOW!
