I think the bigger point is that behavior shouldn’t be judged by the worst examples. People who spend time and money to travel abroad for an event are usually a very different crowd from those gathering at free public events. That said, cleaning up after yourself shouldn’t be something extraordinary—it’s just basic courtesy. If someone chooses to go beyond that and help clean the venue, even if part of it is for appearances, the result is still positive.
