179 British service personnel lost in Iraq. Not statistics. Each one someone’s world. Different desert. Different war. Same sacrifice. Some of us went out there and did our job. We came home. Too many didn’t. For some, the war hasn’t ended. We remember those who never made it back. And those still carrying it today. We remember them. Always 🇬🇧 #LestWeForget #Iraq #Veterans #Remembrance

457 British service personnel lost in Afghanistan. Not numbers. Names. Faces. Mates. Some of us spent months out there. We came home. Too many didn’t. Even now… we’re still losing more. The impact doesn’t end when the tours do. Let's remember those who paid the ultimate price and those still fighting long after. We remember them. Always. 🇬🇧 #LestWeForget #Afghanistan #Veterans #Remembrance

12 million pensioners just got a 4.8% rise, paid for by £12bn in working-age welfare cuts. The triple lock's annual cost is set to explode to £15.5bn by 2030. So the young pay, the old vote. That's not a pension; it's a pyramid scheme.

@hol40900 You attack people drawing a derisory state pension they funded over a lifetime, unlikely someone with your lack of ability to produce wealth will ever provide meaningful financial contribution to the state pot. It’s not a ‘pyramid scheme’ it’s called paying in before taking out.

The Falklands War began on this day in 1982. Lest we forget those who never returned home, and all those who came home changed forever. On 13 June 1982, during the Battle for Mount Longdon, Lance Corporal Denzil Connick of 3 PARA was hit by a mortar round. He lost his left leg and suffered severe damage to his right. Denzil went on to dedicate his life to supporting fellow veterans and was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in 2023 for his service. He sadly passed away later that year. Lest we forget.

Today we remember Marine Recruit Wayne Richards, 17, from South Wales, who was tragically killed in the early hours of the 31st March 2000. Marine Recruit Richards was in week nine of the 30 week training course, he had wanted to join the army since he was 14. During a mock attack exercise on Woodbury Common, near Exeter, he was shot twice, with live rounds; after they became mixed up with blanks. @ukhomeoffice An excellent initiative, but one that risks being diluted if your authority continues to be undermined by politically motivated actors within regional police bodies. You need to urgently address this situation.

Police time will no longer be wasted investigating legal social media posts, freeing up officers to patrol the streets and tackle real crime. By scrapping Non‑Crime Hate Incidents, we are balancing the protection of vulnerable communities while respecting free speech.

Today marks the anniversary of the day we lost two brave Royal Marines from 40 Commando. On 30 March 2008, while on patrol in southern Afghanistan near Kajaki, Lieutenant John "JT" Thornton (aged 22, from Ferndown, Dorset) and Marine David "Dave" Marsh (aged 23, from Sheffield) were killed when their vehicle struck an IED. Despite the immediate efforts of their comrades and the medical team at Camp Bastion, both succumbed to their wounds. LT Thornton had joined the Royal Marines in 2004 and was serving as a Platoon Commander. Marine Marsh had served since 2002. They gave their lives in service to their country, alongside their brothers in arms. Gone but not forgotten Royals. See you at the reorg.

23 years ago today we lost Marine Christopher Maddison. Chris, of 9 Assault Sqn. RM, died of shrapnel wounds after his landing craft came under fire on a river patrol near Basra last March. An initial investigation by the Royal Military Police blamed his death on an Iraqi ambush, but a Royal Navy board of inquiry concluded that he had been killed by fire from his own side. On March 30 2003 a boat group of two landing craft and inshore raiding craft were scouring the marshes and reed beds southeast of Az Aubayr in southern Iraq in search of enemy activity. As Landing Craft Vehicle and Personnel November One edged cautiously into the main waterway to assess the situation, the craft was hit simultaneously by small arms fire and an anti-tank missile. The three crew in the wheelhouse were all injured – two men were knocked unconscious while 24-year-old Mne Maddison suffered injuries from which he subsequently died in field hospital. Two further crewmen in the well deck were blown into the water by the blast and a corporal received extensive cuts to his face from shrapnel. Gone but not forgotten Royal. See you at the reorg.
