I’m a big fan of the @spiky_xyz community, and it didn’t fail because of one mistake. In my opinion, these are the reasons most NFT projects collapse: ▪️No utility or value ▪️Weak or non-existent community ▪️Overhyped and underdelivered roadmaps ▪️Untrustworthy teams ▪️Poor art ▪️Bad supply decisions ▪️Cash grab mentality ▪️Market timing and external conditions ▪️No long-term vision Spiky had a great community and a lot of hype, but it minted at a terrible time. Market conditions were bad. More importantly, the project failed to demonstrate real value to the community. We were lost. There was no roadmap. We had no idea what the plan was. We trusted the team, but there was no real reason to hold the NFTs. NFTs need a future, not just a launch. I hope other NFT projects think about this and build something beyond mint day. Hoping to see a good future for @ChogNFT and @skrumpeys.

First Monad OG NFT to officially call it a day. Here’s what really happened with @spiky_xyz This wasn’t bad market conditions or lack of support. It was a team that couldn’t run a project past mint. Spiky became positioning, not execution something we’ve seen way too often in this space. First of all, let’s look at Spiky art, it’s not that appealing, it’s all the same, nothing unique about it. We hoped spiky would be the best pixel art on monad but… The team didn’t even have a clear idea of what they wanted to do or were supposed to do. Look at all the activity post-mint. It was basically zero. Immediately after mint, they went ghost. They came back after two weeks and said the community was calling them scammers for leaving. Like the community was supposed to welcome them with awards for ghosting two weeks after mint. Out of all the NFTs already minted on Monad, Spiky received some of the most support possible. All the fake ass newbies so-called Monad OGs backed Spiky, calling them “OG of OG Monad projects, yet it couldn’t even survive two months into mainnet. This was a case of a team with no idea, no vision, and no direction, and they finally admitted that by ending the project. Community support was massive, close to 100%. A lot of people bought Spiky at 3× mint price during the mint because they believed in the OG Monad NFT dream. In reality, there was nothing going on behind the scenes. At least they are refunding part of the mint value to holders. That’s the only good thing they’ve done. I hope next time teams don’t trap people with ideas they can’t bring to life or visions they can’t pursue. Monad will still be here. But many projects will disappear just like Spiky. Many founders will eventually come out and admit they weren’t ready to build. I just hope they refund holders properly, at least half the mint like this team is doing.

Spiky started two years ago because we were genuinely inspired by how the Monad community was built, how unhinged and real it was, and how people cared for each other. We wanted to build something that felt worthy of that energy and add our own twist to it. For a long time, especially pre mainnet, that worked. We built, experimented, hosted, shipped, and shared a lot of real moments together. Spiky became a constant in the eco. Since moving to mainnet, for reasons both in and outside our control, we have not been able to bring that vision to life. The potential was there and we failed to realize it. That reality is painful for us, and we know it has been frustrating for our community as well. After a lot of thought, we have made the difficult decision to pause development of Spiky indefinitely. We will distribute the entirety of the remaining 2.5 million $MON in the Spiky treasury to our holders. A snapshot will be taken on January 26 and each wallet will receive $MON per Spiky held. Our team has spent the last two years deeply committed to Monad and its ecosystem. Some of us walked away from jobs to build here, and we never approached Spiky with extractive intent. That doesn't change now. The core team didn't take any profits from the treasury. Thank you to everyone who believed in us and allowed us to chase this dream with you. While this chapter closes, we will continue to be active in Monad and support the people and projects building toward its future. SIU
