A welcoming present just out this morning for a Mr A Burnham to underline just how limited his latitude as PM will be: The UK government borrowed £23.3 billion last month, 30 per cent or £5.4 billion higher than a year earlier. It was also more than the £18.8 billion expected by most economists and the £17.7 billion forecast by the Office for Budget Responsibility, the UK’s independent fiscal watchdog.  The interest payable on government debt rose to £11.7 billion, the highest ever recorded in any May.

5 questions to ask yourself before any big purchase: 1. Do I need this or is it a temporary want? 2. Does this align with my goals and values? 3. What else could this money be doing for me? 4. Will I still be happy with this purchase in 30 days? 5. Can I afford this without affecting my emergency fund? Save this post. Next time you buy something, answer all 5 and see how much you really want it.

I hear ya. I am unconvinced that cuts will be big enough as the political ramifications are unpalatable. Obviously we could have productivity growth but with the energy costs here so high that isn't a runner. I think they'll just continue to steal money from everyone via data manipulation. I hope not and I really hope we find a better way forward

And painful solutions will eventuality be chosen by the electorate. But it will take a long time. It will take years of economic pain and suffering for the turkeys to vote for Christmas. In Argentina it took years of triple digit inflation and interest rates until they elected Milei who had said up front he would slash public spending (and their benefits) by 30% in a year.

Former BlackRock fund manager Ed Dowd on the death of the dollar 💵☠️ "we're in a stealth bull market in the dollar... [but] the bad news is there's a new monetary system coming" "I've always been of the opinion the dollar is going to fail up... Then they reset stuff" "The dollar system is designed for constant credit creation... [and] put simply more credit creation, lower dollar, less credit creation, higher dollar" "so de-dollarization is actually bullish for the dollar in the short term because... there's always people scrambling for dollar liquidity" "if the dollar goes up too fast, too quick, it squeezes other nations and causes serious economic pain" "The dollar is very much a financial weapon and it is used as such" "So the good news is I don't think the dollar is going away anytime soon. The bad news is there's a new monetary system coming" "I don't know when, but it's going to involve gold because the signal is going to involve gold because central banks are acquiring gold...[and] commercial banks are acquiring gold because they made it a tier-one capital again, which is essentially the ability to create money from your gold" "So I'm bullish the dollar long term until I see the charts break. And they haven't broken yet" "that's why when people ask me, What should I be doing with the stock market?, I go, Take some of your money and put it in the cash— They go, but inflation's killing me. Well, inflation may be killing you, but if the stock market deflates 50%, your cash is... a lot better" @ShannonJoyRadio @DowdEdward
