ACCEPTANCE SPEECH BY HON. AMB. SAMUEL A. DANJUMA ON MY APPOINTMENT AS NATIONAL PUBLICITY SECRETARY, GRASSROOTS MOBILIZATION NETWORK (GMN) FOR THE RE-ELECTION OF PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU, GCFR
Protocol.
With profound gratitude to Almighty God, I humbly accept my appointment as the National Publicity Secretary of the Grassroots Mobilization Network (GMN) for the Re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
I wish to sincerely thank the leadership and its National coordinator Hon Toyinbo Ayanwusi of this great movement for finding me worthy of this responsibility. I do not take this opportunity for granted. It is both an honour and a call to greater service.
Over the years, I have remained committed to the ideals of progressive politics, grassroots engagement, peace-building, and good governance. As a young progressive politician, conflict resolution expert, and advocate for peace and good governance, I have consistently used my voice, my pen, and every available platform to promote constructive national discourse and support policies aimed at advancing our nation.
Through my numerous articles, commentaries, media engagements, and public advocacy, I have consistently highlighted the achievements, reforms, and policy directions of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. I have defended and promoted the Renewed Hope Agenda because I firmly believe that nation-building requires sacrifice, patience, and collective commitment.
While challenges undoubtedly exist, I have continued to advocate for a balanced assessment of government policies, particularly in the areas of economic reforms, infrastructure development, security enhancement, youth empowerment, and institutional strengthening. Leadership demands difficult decisions, and history often vindicates courageous reforms.
I have equally dedicated considerable time and effort to promoting the developmental strides of the administration of His Excellency, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State. Governor Ododo’s commitment to continuity, grassroots development, security, and inclusive governance deserves support from all well-meaning citizens. As someone who believes in constructive engagement, I have continued to advocate for policies and programmes that directly impact the lives of ordinary people.
My appointment today is therefore not merely a position; it is a responsibility to further strengthen communication between our movement and the Nigerian people. It is an opportunity to effectively communicate government policies, mobilize support at the grassroots, counter misinformation with facts, and deepen citizens’ understanding of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
As National Publicity Secretary, I pledge to discharge my duties with diligence, professionalism, integrity, and unwavering commitment. I will work closely with our leaders, stakeholders, members, and supporters across the country to ensure that our message reaches every community, every ward, every local government, and every state of the federation.
I also recognize that effective communication is not propaganda; it is about providing information, building trust, and fostering meaningful engagement between leaders and the people. That is the standard I intend to uphold.
To the youth of Nigeria, I remain one of you. I understand your aspirations, your concerns, and your hopes for a better future. I encourage you to remain engaged, productive, and committed to nation-building. The future belongs to those who prepare for it.
Let me assure the leadership of the Grassroots Mobilization Network that I am fully prepared for this assignment. I will bring to this office my experience in advocacy, communication, community mobilization, conflict resolution, and public engagement.
Together, we shall continue to promote the achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, strengthen grassroots participation, and work tirelessly towards the successful re-election of Mr. President.

Abbey's Banking Licence Is Big News. But Investors Should Look Beyond The Headlines
========
Abbey Mortgage Bank's conversion into a regional commercial bank is one of the most significant developments in Nigeria's banking sector this year.
For over three decades, Abbey operated largely as a mortgage bank, focusing on housing finance and related services. With the approval from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the institution is now preparing to enter a much larger market.
The opportunity is obvious.
======
Commercial banks have access to a broader range of income streams. They can mobilize deposits, provide corporate loans, support trade finance, process payments, serve SMEs, and offer wealth management services. Simply put, the revenue potential is much bigger than that of a traditional mortgage bank.
That is why many investors are excited.
But excitement alone does not create shareholder value. What The Market Is Seeing
The market is currently valuing Abbey based largely on its history as a mortgage bank.
The new licence changes the story.
Investors are now looking at what Abbey could become rather than what it has been. This explains the renewed interest in the stock since the announcement.
However, a banking licence is only a licence. Execution is what matters.
The Capital Raising Question
=====
To support this transition, shareholders have already approved plans to raise ₦164.5 billion in fresh equity and another ₦100 billion through debt instruments. This is both good news and a risk.
The good news is that the bank appears serious about growth and has identified the capital required to compete.
The risk is dilution.
=====
If new shares are issued, existing shareholders may own a smaller percentage of the company unless they participate in future capital raises. This is something investors should watch closely.
What About The Shareholding Structure?
One of the key issues investors should monitor is ownership concentration.
✓Who controls the bank?
✓Will major shareholders increase their holdings during future capital raises?
✓Will institutional investors come in?
✓Will foreign investors show interest?
The answers to these questions could influence liquidity, corporate governance, and future market valuation. Strong institutional ownership often improves investor confidence.
Can Abbey Compete?
======
This is perhaps the most important question. The commercial banking space is already dominated by powerful institutions such as Access Holdings, GTCO, Zenith Bank, UBA, First HoldCo, Fidelity Bank, and Stanbic IBTC.
Abbey will not become a Tier-1 bank overnight. The transition will take years. The bank must attract deposits, build technology platforms, expand its customer base, strengthen risk management, and grow earnings. That journey will determine whether the current optimism is justified.
What Investors Should Watch
=====
Instead of focusing only on the licence approval, investors should monitor:
✓Deposit growth
✓Loan growth
✓Profit growth
✓Capital raising plans
✓Changes in shareholding structure
✓Dividend policy
✓Digital banking strategy
✓Expansion plans
✓Cost management
These are the factors that ultimately drive shareholder returns.
#AnalystOpinion
The CBN approval has opened a new chapter for Abbey. The bank is moving from a niche mortgage lender into a much larger and more competitive industry. For shareholders, the opportunity is clear. But so are the challenges.
The licence creates the possibility of future growth. Management execution will determine whether that possibility becomes reality.
As investors, it is important to remember one thing: A new licence can change a company's story. Only earnings can change its valuation.
