Next Monday, June 9, marks the one-year anniversary of the passing of President Mike Lovell. I hope you take some time next Monday to reflect on the impact Mike had on Marquette and on you, personally. He worked to be the best version of himself in all that he did and committed his life to creating opportunities for others to be the best versions of themselves. One meaningful way to carry his legacy forward is to show each other kindness, practice humility, and take care of your physical, spiritual and mental well-being. The Marquette community was invited to attend a special blessing ceremony for the new Wellness + Helfaer Recreation, which also honored our late President, Dr. Michael Lovell, and his wife Amy. The facility is home to the LOVELLSTRONG Center for Student Well-being. LOVELLSTRONG represents the way President Lovell lived his life, as well as the Lovells’ dream that all students would experience cura personalis, or care for the whole person – mind, body and spirit. On Denim Day—a national day of awareness for survivors of sexual violence—this center stands as a reminder that when students seek help with courage and strength, they will be met by a Marquette community that provides hope and healing. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the generous donors and friends who made this student-centered facility a reality, especially Marquette alumni Jim and Kelly McShane, whose lead gift helped bring this vision to life.
