I’m proud to earn the endorsement of San Francisco’s Alice B. Toklas Democratic Club, the oldest LGBTQ+ Democratic Club in the Country. I started my career in the 1980’s serving as a Santa Cruz County public health commissioner during the HIV/AIDS crisis – an experience that taught me lessons I still carry today: When government acts with urgency and compassion, we can save and improve lives. But when government fails to act, people pay the price. It’s a lesson I’ll carry with me into the California governor’s office.
