Been a while since I did some photogrammetry based work. No fancy Structured light/Photometry setup. Just n old Sony ILC-E6000 with its 16-50 kit lens in horrendous lighting conditions and everything else done by hand (cleaning/sculpting, materials). #snoopy @Snoopy

Most seem to miss that the true point of DLSS5 is to keep AMD/Intel/Sony/Microsoft busy chasing an impossible target to keep otherwise productive humans from actually developing something useful instead.

The actual DLSS end game is full enslopification, meaning geo replacement at end of frame. They obviously missed that goal by a mile and back peddled to what they could do but probably to what they know won’t scale down (AMD doesn’t play high end, consoles are always mid range)

GN is on point, especially about the abysmal temporal behavior: youtube.com/watch?v=H1a8YE… - No amount of tera-slops is going to fix this trash fire. It isn't "photo realism" they are chasing, it's the "uncanny-slop-valley".

NVIDIA's New Deep Learning Super Slop 5 Filter ---- After long time of telling you VRAM size doesn't matter, and that neural-texture-hallucination would save you, now they gunna flip-flop since their realtime enslopification networks don't actually fit in memory with the game

Deep Learning Super Slop 5 shown running using a second 5090, and it cannot make your character’s face look like your favorite AI super hero (which would obviously be Jensen). What a letdown. What is the point of AI if you cannot even steal someone else’s likeness in a video game

I'm aware these things are part of bigger marketing/brand efforts, but conveying to the wider audience that "Pathtracing" is the only thing that'll get you accurate direct shadowing from any light is misleading (as if the audience was not confused enough already in these topics)

When Capcom first delivered Resident Evil, it used pre-rendered backgrounds to deliver unprecedented atmosphere. But something was lost in the move to 3D, until now, with RE Requiem's path tracing. @Dachsjaeger explains: youtu.be/jC98WaHzd4I #sponsored

@Lasurak All these “neural*” papers exist to transfer AI bubble $$ to programmers in exchange to help sell the bubble to investors. The stuff designed for efficiency start with “non-neural”

... It's as if the game industry has evolved a collection of "engineers" weaned on the bottle of improving NVIDIA benchmark scores, but otherwise not thinking through solving problems with efficient memory access patterns ...

Great start to the morning with Team Xbox, where we talked about our commitment to the return of Xbox including Project Helix, the code name for our next generation console. Project Helix will lead in performance and play your Xbox and PC games. Looking forward to chatting about this more with partners and studios at my first GDC next week!

The concept of creating an exact digital replica of the physical world has always fascinated me: environments that look and behave exactly like our everyday reality, precisely captured in the digital domain. This is the essence of 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐬, simulated realities indistinguishable from our own. Generating these models is the core mission behind what we are building at @SpAItial_AI. True World Models must capture both photorealistic appearance and underlying physics, spatially-consistent across the environment. For static scenes, current models already deliver impressive results, unlocking downstream applications from gaming to 3D design. However, the true frontier lies in modeling dynamics, which will enable the training of AI agents whose learned behaviors can bridge the sim-to-real gap, thus unlocking countless real-world applications.

"Practical Unbounded Hash-Grid Encoding for Neural Radiance Caching" is out in GPU Zen 4. It is mostly about things in NRC not written in academic papers. Hope this is an intro of ML to graphics people (like us).

‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ director Gore Verbinski says that some CGI in movies now is worse because of over-reliance on Unreal Engine “People started thinking maybe movies can also use Unreal for finished visual effects. So you have this sort of gaming aesthetic entering the world of cinema” (Source: butwhytho.net/2025/11/gore-v…)
