2 nights ago, Jordanian Border Guards thwarted the second-largest Captagon smuggling attempt from S. #Syria since smugglers began using guided balloons. Today marks the end of my time serving as a director at the @NewlinesInst, a think tank I’ve proudly worked for nearly six years, truly marking the end of an era. I loved this job. I grew up in this role, both as an analyst and as a person. I got to dive into issues I deeply cared about, such as security and counternarcotics in the Middle East, and work with an incredible set of people who truly defined this role. This role took me to the UN and its many agencies, Congress, parliamentary halls of the UK and European Union, courtrooms, and many other exciting places where I got to exchange ideas about some of the most challenging policy conundrums the U.S. and its partners face around the globe. This job also took a village for me—particularly at the start when my husband and I were floating between US Army bases, facing a commute between 13 and 3 hours to work in DC. I relied on so many for their spare beds, couches, futons, air mattresses, and airport pickups to make this job work, and I am so grateful to all of them who helped me throughout this journey. It’s a bittersweet goodbye. I’ll be taking a few weeks between my next (very exciting) role and thank everyone at New Lines for making these last 5+ years so fantastic.
