A few days ago, I said that Nigeria is one of the few African countries whose military can withstand multiple security threats at once. ranging from Boko Haram, Iswap, lakurawa, Ansaru, bandits, ipob, largely without direct foreign combat support. Yet some people were quick to dismiss that point. Now look at Mali. After the exit of the Wagner Group, the Malian army has struggled to contain JNIM, with reports of increasing pressure even around Bamako. Their earlier successes were heavily tied to external support, and without it, the situation had deteriorated rapidly. Meanwhile, Nigeria has been battling insurgency and other security challenges for over 15 years. While these threats have not been completely eliminated, they have not been able to overrun major cities or destabilize the state to that extent.
