@brembs @franknorman What is also striking is how that APC diversity scales with metrics like impact factor for an arguably identical service. E.g., Cell Rep £4,300; Curr Biol £5,700; Dev/Mol/Cancer Cell £7,000; Cell £7,800. Elsevier’s full APC pricing is here: elsevier.com/__data/promis_…

It's not always easy to find a preprint's peer-review history, associated journal decisions etc. Read about DocMaps, a project to improve what RC project leader @tlemberger calls "the plumbing of scientific publishing"(@sever is also featured in this post) reviewcommons.org/blog/changing-…
Richard Sever@cshperspectives

What is a "peer reviewed preprint”? a) A preprint for which there are peer reviews available (which could be positive or negative..) b) A preprint that's been peer-reviewed and, as a consequence of which, deemed to pass some bar of acceptability. 4/n

This is an interesting thread. Librarians do what they believe most researchers want - but due to the scholarly publishing system, it is difficult to move away from big deals without a great deal of inconvenience . It's time to come up with alternatives (subject based?)
Richard Poynder@RickyPo

For years university librarians complained that publishers' subscription prices were financially unsustainable. Today they are signing transformative deals with the same publishers and presenting it as a solution. Why will these prove any more sustainable? web.archive.org/web/2012060614…

preLights@preLights

preLights talks to John Inglis! We were delighted to speak with @JohnRInglis about all things bioRxiv, medRxiv and preprints. Thank you John for a brilliant discussion. Read the interview ⬇️ prelights.biologists.com/news/prelights…
