Hunting animals to extinction, keeping cattle, dominating other species has been part of human history long before we could even write it down.

Maybe a hot take, but our perception of animals is deeply rooted in colonialism. One animal is not better or “more evolved” than the other. Nor are insular/island species of animals inept or weak. Each animal is well adapted to their environment prior to human modifications.
