Why when drug trials “fail” is there no uproar for approval from clinicians who saw patients benefiting, or at least a targeted phase 4 trial or expanded access program, but complete abandonment of years of work? How do so many smart people not understand expanded access? /3

I fear that we're going to see more of this if we keep pushing forward compounds that weren't properly validated and don't actually test a hypothesis. We can't expect society to keep funding failed trial after failed trial forever. Time we got much smarter about how we do things.

In the not so distant future all data taken from any research study around the world could be put on distributed databases that nobody owns but everybody can access and benefit from. That is what blockchain technologies makes possible. I hope more people are looking into this.
