@chrisprice Fair point, I do believe there's a middle ground to be found here but don't think this scorched earth policy is it. The old policy already had room for human review, if some troll tried to e.g. take down every Mario hack, I'd hope they wouldn't simply go ahead without verifying.

@Prof9 Lawyers are not who they are concerned with. A law firm identifies itself, and can be contacted to confirm its authenticity. This is about people faking the identity of someone and submitting large takedown requests. This is a real problem today.

Fun fact. Did you know ROMhacking.net quietly updated its removal policy this year? For 20 years, it used to be you could have your files removed if they were uploaded without permission. Now? You have to full-blown doxx yourself for them to even begin considering it.

@rari_teh If it is because of Aeon Genesis, that would be really sad IMO. I completely understand their reasoning for not wanting to host their translations on RHDN anymore.

I'm seeing some comments about how this can deter corps from filing takedowns. While I understand the sentiment, this policy doesn't mean anything from a legal perspective. It only affects those who aren't willing to go to court, i.e. community members. x.com/Prof9/status/2…

@chrisprice A site policy has no legal value or bearing at all. It's not going to stop a fraudulent actor from filing a DMCA request, nor will it increase the barrier in doing so in any way at all. A lawyer will simply ignore this passage, if they read this document at all.

@Prof9 This is to thwart falsified takedown notices from fraudulent actors.

If I spend many hours making something for free, then yeah, I think I should get some say in how & where it's uploaded. This has nothing to do with deleting stuff after the fact in a fit of rage. Asking for permission before redistributing someone's work is basic human decency.

Note that because there are various different versions of SoundMod out there, I won't be providing any pre-built patches here, but you can grab them from the Tango patches repository if/when this add-on gets integrated in the existing patches there.
