Americans only have internal multilingualism. I think this is why they struggle to broaden their thinking when engaging this topic.
If you consider internal multilingualism, there are over 100 languages is South Africa.
Mpondo, Phuthi, Lobedu, Tshillafuri, etc, are examples.

There is nothing more admirable in a man than one who openly acknowledges and supports a marginal group. Seeing how queer people are being treated in this world, even for existing, always breaks my heart.
