In this @PolStudies paper, @SergioAbarcena and I find that dark-skinned lawmakers in Mexico are prevented from producing important legislation at the same rate than their peers, partially because they are marginalised from leadership posts. Open Access in link below.

They reveal the furtive and systemic nature of Mexican racism; that colorist disadvantages might be better explained by inequalities of origin, than by overt discrimination. The anti-racist strategies we design in response should be informed by these nuances. 3/4

To test the aptness of skin color classification algorithms (so popular these days!), I asked humans and "robots" to classify 1000s of pics, and compared their results. This @EthnicitiesSAGE paper presents the findings. SPOILER: it’s good news for antiracist research!

Never got to share this article, were @Sarahrcyb and I test the frequent assumption that co-design leads to policy success. After we published this paper, she's was awarded with a DECRA from the @arc_gov_au. I tell myself our article had something to do with it 😂 (it didn't).

@aytchellesse No one finds the statement offensive. They find offensive what they assume you are actually thinking; arguably, that something is a “lie” bc it is a truth you cannot access (standpoint epistemology/requires lived exp). The offensive part is that you don’t take their word for it.
