My ex and I broke up, but then spent months in this weird situationship where we were basically acting like we were together again. He told me he loved me constantly, stayed at my apartment all the time, slept with me, acted emotionally committed, etc. Then one day I found out he had been sleeping with/building something with someone else during that same period. It completely destroyed me mentally and emotionally because the entire time I thought we were rebuilding trust and moving toward getting back together again. After I found out, we’ve been no contact for weeks, and then today he randomly sends me the text in the screenshot.

So instead of ignoring it, I called and left a voicemail saying he doesn’t get to break no contact, emotionally unload on me, and then decide I’m not allowed to respond. I also told him that whether he wants to admit it or not, building intimacy with someone else while acting committed to me still feels like choosing other people over me. Now I’m wondering if I overreacted by responding instead of just ignoring the text.

What bothered me most is that it feels like he broke no contact to clear HIS conscience while simultaneously trying to dictate my reaction by telling me not to respond and that we’ll “continue no contact.” honestly this made me angry because regardless of labels, everything I still feel like he lied to me every single day by omission while looking me in my face and telling me he still loved me.

My mom came over after my daughter’s dance recital. It’s 2pm. She pours herself a glass of wine. The glass is filled nearly to the top. No one else is drinking. She’s had trouble drinking alcohol at events recently and I’ve discussed this with her but she doesn’t seem to remember those talks now. I know this is a bad sign. She’s drinking fast. My husband is grinding meat for burgers. The kids are fighting over building a fort. I spent the morning backstage and am exhausted. Now I’m started to feel overstimulated. Mom offers take the baby and I want to give her a chance. She’s got a weird grip on the baby like she’s gonna drop her. I offer to help her get in a chair first she says no. She starts singing loudly to the baby. No one else can have a conversation. Kids still squabbling. Grinder still running. I say “hey kids let’s slow it down and take a break from this game”. They are still loud but it’s a little lower.
