He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. This designation often means that the cat will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption.🔥🔥🔥🔥 What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! I have lived with cats in my previous home. I have potential behavior challenges that staff will address with you when you meet me. I'm an independent kitty who likes to do my own thing. I am looking for a home with a patient person. I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace. I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home. Juan Carlos tolerates some attention and petting but appears fearful or stressed in the shelter and displays some avoidant behaviors. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home with an appropriate decompression period, and positive reinforcement for social behaviors with high value treats. 🆘🆘 TATER (ID 248916), 1 YO, FEMALE – IN STATEN ISLAND ACC - came into the shelter as an owner surrender on 3/21/2026, with the surrender reason stated as not a fit - too many animals already. 🆘🆘 😿 😿 😿 😿 ➡️TBD 4/25/26 ➡️ ONLY A BABY - JUST BEGINNING LIFE ➡️ NEW HOPE PARTNER RESCUE ONLY ➡️ TOO LOW ON PLEDGES TO STIMULATE RESCUE INTEREST ➡️🆘🆘 4TH Chance on Emergency Placement List – BEYOND URGENT - NO ROOM IN SHELTER – WILL NOT BE GIVEN MUCH MORE TIME – VERY HIGH EU/SILENT KILL RISK – 🆘🆘 😱🔥🔥😱 ➡️ 34 DAYS IN SHELTER – TOO LONG – TIME IS RUNNING OUT ➡️ TATER IS ON THE EPL FOR BEHAVIORAL REASONS -She is an under-socialized cat who may not have had many interactions with humans from an early age. Upon arriving at the Care Center, Tater tolerated minimal handling. As she remains at the Care Center, she has become less tolerant of touch. As staff approaches her kennel, she is lunging, hissing, and swatting with nails extended. When attempting to pet her with a scratcher tool, she is entirely avoidant. Given her fearful behavior, it is in her best interest to transition from the kennel environment into a stable home setting. She would do best in a low-traffic home with experienced adopters. Medically, upon intake, she had alopecia but otherwise appears healthy. This designation often means that the cat will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption.🔥🔥🔥🔥 Tater is a one-year-old female who has not acclimated to the Care Center. She is described as shy, independent, and fearful.
