In Sicily, the old way of celebrating St. Joseph's day was for people to set up Altars (Tables) within their homes to feed the poor. This is done to thank God for answering their prayers. This tradition is still preserved by many Sicilian communities in America to this day.

Happy St Joseph's Day!!!
Buona Festa d'San Giuseppe!!!
Today is a very important celebration in Italy. It honors not only St. Joseph, the father of Jesus, but is also recognized as Festa del Papà (Father's Day) by Italians.
In some parts of Southern Italy, particularly in Sicily, people set up altars with offerings of food for the saint, which are then distributed to the poor.

For St Joseph's Day, Sicilians make their own type of Zeppole called Sfingi.
These are fluffy ricotta donuts, fried until golden and rolled in sugar and traditionally made for holidays like San Giuseppe and Easter.
Sfingi features a light, fried dough filled and topped with sweetened ricotta cheese, chocolate chips, candied orange peel, and a candied cherry, often garnished with pistachios.
The dough is similar to choux pastry, but deep-fried instead of baked, creating a soft, hollow center for the rich filling.

The sweetest treat for a Saint's day
Zeppole di San Giuseppe, or St. Joseph's Day pastries, are a traditional Italian dessert eaten on March 19th.
These deep-fried or baked choux pastry fritters are typically piped into rings, filled with pastry cream or ricotta, and topped with a cherry.
Also known as bignè di San Giuseppe in Rome and sfinge, zeppole are a Neapolitan classic enjoyed mainly in Southern Italy.

The four major food groups in Philly: Pretzels, hoagies, cheesesteaks, and water ice. Philly doesn’t just have food, it has institutions. There’s nowhere else in America that tastes like this city.

St Joseph's Day tables in other parts of Southern Italy 🇮🇹
While Sicilian St. Joseph’s Day altars are a grand, unified expression of a historical miracle, those in other Southern Italian regions are more varied, modest, and tied to local customs and foods, reflecting the diversity of Italy’s South beyond Sicily’s iconic tradition.

@CrazyItalianPol To be fair, maybe Bossi was trying to atone for his anti-southern politics when he divorced his Padanian first wife and married a Sicilian woman 😂
