Milkshakes have been my favorite treat since I was a little kid.
When I make them homemade, all I do is put ice cream and milk In a blender.

I feel like I need to clarify because people are getting butthurt about my kids' food choices.
This is primarily a teaching exercise. If you know anything about kids, it's hard to teach them in ways they'll remember without making it fun. The day we did this was months ago and they still talk about how fun it was. Very memorable.
And most importantly, this is step one of the teaching process. You let them go crazy, get whatever they want because it's a novelty, and then the next times you do it, you adjust the circumstances. Less money, more healthy...etc.
Why? Because when they grow up and go out on their own, the first food they're likely to purchase for themselves is going to look like these pictures. Unless you teach them now how to not do that. You satisfy their inner chaos demon right now, and then teach them better.
You want to know what else my kids said after they ate this food?
"I don't feel good when I drink that much soda at once."
"This bread isn't very filling."
"I wish this pizza had more meat on it."

Ever so often we take our kids to the store and give them a small budget for lunch or dinner. They're allowed to buy any food items to eat, so long as they're actually eating some kind of meal and not just one massive bucket of ice cream. The last time we did it, we told them they had to spend less than $9 each (which was actually too much!), and they figured out that they could pool their money and share. It was fun watching them run around the store, calculating what things cost, figuring out how to maximize their budget, and negotiating with each other about what to share (or not!). All this talk about not being able to eat a meal for under $30, or not having time to whip up a boxed cake mix, is just crazy talk.

@FiredUpCoug My daughter lost a friend while in middle school due to a car accident. Just love them, show them support and empathy. That's a tough thing to process for young kids. Lots of other good ideas... 🫶

My 12-year-old son came home from school really sad today.
A young man in his grade was killed in a terrible car accident a few days ago. My son didn’t think he knew him at first, but when the school shared photos today, he realized it was his friend from track.
This is the first time he has had to process the loss of a friend.
We’ve already reached out to the school resource counselor and scheduled a time for him to talk with her.
For those of you who have helped a child through grief like this, what else can we do to support him?

People often inquire about the exact time of the Second Coming.
While we cannot know that (see Matthew 24:36), what if the day of His coming were tomorrow? If you knew that you would meet the Lord tomorrow—through premature death or through His unexpected coming—what would you do today?
As Jesus taught in His prophecy of the Second Coming, blessed is the “faithful and wise servant” who is attending to his duty when the Lord comes (see Matthew 24:45–46).
“Wherefore,” the Savior tells us, “be faithful, praying always, having your lamps trimmed and burning, and oil with you, that you may be ready at the coming of the Bridegroom—For behold, verily, verily, I say unto you, that I come quickly” (Doctrine and Covenants 33:17–18).
Jesus Christ lives. I testify that He shall come, as He has promised.

In sacrament today someone was referencing the the parable of the good samaritan. As they read this scripture, Luke 10:30, "And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead."
From the row in front of us we hear, "He was only mostly dead. Does that make the good samaritan, Miracle Max?"

@FiredUpCoug I worked in Seattle for a while, where everyone loved Starbucks. I don't recall everything that happened the first time I was in one with my co-workers, but I know I felt very similar, but the company wasn't paying so I got a regular sized hot chocolate - plain.

This reminds me of a really funny story from early in my career.
Several of my coworkers and I had a morning meeting with one of our managers at a Starbucks.
I hadn’t really spent any time in coffee shops, and I had no idea how to order anything there. I didn’t drink coffee, so my options were basically hot chocolate or apple cider.
My boss handed his credit card to the barista before anyone ordered, and I strategically waited until everyone else went first, hoping I could pick up on the sizing jargon.
Finally, it was my turn.
I asked for a hot chocolate.
The barista asked what size I wanted, and I panicked. I knew there were special Starbucks words, but I didn’t know which one meant what, and I didn’t want to sound like an idiot.
So I just said, “The big one.”
Because the company was paying.
Then he asked if I wanted it “with everything.”
I had no idea what “everything” meant, but I didn’t want to ask another question, so I said, “Sure.”
At the time, “everything” apparently meant an absurd mountain of whipped cream, chocolate syrup, and sprinkles.
One by one, my coworkers’ names were called, and they each walked back with their tiny, sophisticated little coffee cups.
Then they called my name.
I looked over at the counter and immediately turned bright red.
There it was: a giant vat of hot chocolate with at least four inches of whipped cream piled on top, covered in syrup and sprinkles like I had just won a reading contest at the public library.
So I had to walk back to the table, in front of my manager and coworkers, carrying what looked like a dessert beverage ordered by an unsupervised eight-year-old with a company card.
And honestly, it was delicious.

Fellow LDS members, please tell me you’re not this idiotically robotic… In the last year, I have had both a friend and a family member who ‘wouldn’t dare to set foot in a Starbucks’, or other coffee establishments while I got a hot chocolate. Your temple recommend isn’t going to go up in flames for being near coffee, people. It’s not an opium den. This is the kind of fanaticism that nonmembers see and wonder what’s wrong with us. Loosen up and stop ….🙄

What your children really want for dinner is you!
In an age of constant online connection, we may need to disconnect from technologies and other distractions to truly reconnect with our families.
Families grow stronger when they set aside these distractions and spend meaningful time together—learning eternal values like the importance of marriage and children, the purpose of life, and the true source of joy.
Parents also have a duty to teach their children practical knowledge apart from gospel principles. Families unite when they do meaningful things together. Happy family experiences strengthen family ties. Camping, sports activities, and other recreation are especially valuable for bonding families.
Some may say, “But we have no time for any of that.” To find time to do what is truly worthwhile, many parents will find that they can turn their families on if they all turn their technologies off.
What those we love need most is simply time with us. Our Savior, Jesus Christ, is our ultimate role model. He will help us as we strive to build these family bonds.
