@jason5becker @JonHeyman Again, it's not like the owners will be unreasonable, most of the players will benefit financially from the cap. But that's how sports works, that's why all of the sports have salary caps. It's just unfortunate it took the mlb this long

@RustyRyanR @JonHeyman I don't know why you don't see that it's the owners problem too. Everything needs to be collectively bargained. The owners can't just impose things and say take it or leave it. This is the stuff labor lawyers live for. And replacement players won't work.

nypost.com/2026/03/19/spo… One or two owners surely understand a payroll cap doesn’t serve their needs, but MLB owners are trending toward unanimity on cap issue

@jason5becker @JonHeyman That is their problem. They have to come to terms with wasting years of their prime and the ability to make money from baseball

@jason5becker @JonHeyman But i doubt it comes down to that. Most likely it is just a year to two of no MLB baseball until the players concede.

@RustyRyanR @JonHeyman Maybe you're not old enough to remember when MLB had replacement players. It didn't work. And it did lasting damage to the game. The owners have a lot more to lose than you're putting into your calculation.

@jason5becker @JonHeyman They would find other players to play. Most of the players in the MLB now would jump ship to make money under the cap rules since they would be making more money. The salary cap system is based on league revenues with expanded revenue sharing all teams can afford

@RustyRyanR @JonHeyman The owners make no money without the players. If the players actually came up with their own league MLB would cease to exist. The problem with the cap is that the players don't think the smaller teams being forced to spend will equal how much higher the big market teams will go

@jason5becker @JonHeyman The players don't have to play in the MLB if they don't like the cap. They can find other jobs to maximize their earning potential. The salary cap system would force smaller market teams to spend within a certain range depending on the league revenues

@RustyRyanR @JonHeyman The players don't think so. They'd rather have the unlimited possibility of the big markets raising the bar. Small market owners aren't competitive because of their own choices. Each team makes over $100 million from TV before selling 1 ticket. 5 teams had payrolls below that.

@jason5becker @JonHeyman You fix both of those issues with the salary cap. Owners and players get more money in the end

@RustyRyanR @JonHeyman It's a cost benefit thing. A cap is an increase for some owners. But for the players that means a Soto contract never happens again. The owners can change the current process and still increase profitability without a cap. The bigger issue is the teams at the bottom not spending

@Matt5xvw @JonHeyman The new CBA can just eliminate deferred contracts. The penalty could be no being able to participate in the postseason if your roster is over the salary cap during the season

@JonHeyman Cap? The dodgers have already blown way past whatever the cap would be including their deferrals so what’s their penalty? Also players are just gonna get screwed on money if that’s the case this is just gonna be a heavily deferred league all around

@jason5becker @JonHeyman I mean it's worth a year to get the salary cap. The owners won't be hurting for money, they still have their day jobs and trust funds to fall back on. After the cap is in place they'll be making more money to make up for a lost year or two.

@RustyRyanR @JonHeyman I see this opinion all the time but the owners have expenses even when the league is shut down. They're all profitable right now especially when factoring in the increasing values of the franchises. It's not worth a year of losses only to end up with slightly more in the end.

@jason5becker @JonHeyman Let the players sit out. The owners will still have their money, the players will be the ones losing out on time and money

@JonHeyman The players will never agree, and the owner's continued insistence that one be adopted will lead to a canceled 2027 season. Hopefully the owners know this and it's just posturing by the owners for negotiation purposes.

@JonHeyman Even if there is a cap teams like the Pirates or the Rays are still going to be nowhere near that cap

K'Andre Miller would score late for the Hurricanes to send this one into overtime. The Penguins fell to Carolina just 8 days ago in the shootout.

Jarvis with a shorthanded breakaway. Skinner makes the save. Horrendous showing from the power play tonight. Really, really bad.
