If you thought the A40 Westway traffic was bad now, it’s about to get a whole lot worse. Transport for London (TfL) has just announced a devastating delay to the ongoing repair works. Following deep inspections this week, engineers reportedly discovered “severe and irreversible structural fatigue” within the elevated concrete supports. Because of this, what was supposed to be a temporary headache has now been turned into a massive, multi-year infrastructure project.
The new estimated completion date? April 2031. That is a full five more years of bottlenecked lanes, diverted traffic, and absolute gridlock from Wood Lane all the way back to Hanger Lane and beyond. A supposed TfL spokesperson stated this morning: “We understand the immense frustration this will cause West London residents, but we cannot ignore these deep structural faults. The safety of the Westway is our absolute priority, and a complete overhaul is now unavoidable.” #UB1UB2 #London #A40 #Westway
