Today’s 20 wild years story is all about the oldest monkey that we have here at Monkey Forest a 31 year old female ‘S75’. She represents the care and attention we give to the beloved Barbary macaques that call the 60 acre Staffordshire woodland home. The average age of Barbary macaques is 23 in a park like ours which is thought to be higher than in the wild. Many of our monkeys live and thrive over this age. S75 is doing amazing. She has lots of family and will leave an amazing legacy behind her. The monkeys here live their whole lives in our 60 acre woodland, living the Barbary macaque way day in, day out. From birth to giving birth to their own babies. She is the equivalent of over being 100 in human years and is thriving ✨ ! #Fyp #foryou #monkey #trenthammonkeyforest #20WildYearsofMonkeyForest #MonkeyForestTurns20 #BirthdayWeek

OH MY GOODNESS📣📣📣 They're arriving like little buses ❤️ Last week, we were shocked to hear that one of our expecting mothers, 'Marilyn', gave birth in the daytime 😯 here at Trentham Monkey Forest - while visitors were walking about the forest 🫶 This is extremely rare, as usually, Barbary macaques give birth in the treetops during the night!! Marilyn is a first-time mum and is doing brilliantly, after delivering our NINTH baby of the year 🤩 Sister to Marilyn, Eyelisha, who has also given birth this year, is thrilled to have a first niece or nephew alongside her newborn baby too and has been seen coming over to check up on her little sis, making sure she's doing all the right things 🥹 The cousins will definitely be scrambling the trees together soon, we're sure of it 🥰! Well done Marilyn! You're doing great and we're very proud of you ❤️!

They're clingy little things 🥹! The baby monkeys during their first month are generally carried on the belly❤. But after this time period, they tend to ride on the back 🐒🏇! They are carried quite often up until after their first year, where it happens on fewer occasions. It won't just be Mum carrying the babies either. Males carry, groom, and protect them too, sometimes from the first days of their lives, which is quite rare in primates 🐵✨. Newborn babies weigh around 600g, so it's not much for the monkeys to lug around! Here are a few pictures of the babies clinging on to either a male or mum, including a close-up picture to help you see how tightly they cling on 🫲

Breaking News from Monkey Forest ❤ Tiny Treetop Arrivals 🌳🐒❤ It’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for 🫶... We’re absolutely DELIGHTED to announce the arrival of three baby Barbary macaques, born high in the trees of our 60-acre woodland during late May! With their adorable pink faces, wrinkly skin, and jet-black fur, the precious little ones clung tightly to mum as they made their way down for breakfast, a beautiful surprise that had our team beaming from ear to ear 💕 Born just as they would be in the wild, these tiny arrivals are more than just bundles of cuteness, they’re a powerful symbol of hope for an endangered species, with fewer than 8,000 remaining in the wild 🌍🐵 The proud monkey mums and their babies are doing exceptionally well and settling in nicely. We are very proud of them! Next up? Confirming the babies’ genders and watching them thrive day by day, living remarkably similar lives to the wild within our woodland. We'll be trying to capture footage of their first steps (usually after 5-10 days) and other bits of wholesome content for you all! PLUS if any more come (we're expecting more to follow!) we'll let you know. Baby season is here, and we can't wait for you to meet the newest members of our monkey families 🐒✨

The bluebells have bloomed 🐵💜 Deep in the forest, in the location where the second group of monkeys sleep, a sea of bluebells has decorated the forest floor 💙🥹 We waited patiently, observed them making their way to the treetops, and brought our camera to capture these wholesome yet peaceful images for you 📸 Spring is most certainly livening up the forest 🌸🪻🌹🌼! All we need now is the baby monkeys to arrive, and our forest will be complete ❤
