@AceOfJoshi I'm not too worried. Getting adopted by the most popular guys on the roster and getting fast tracked into being a faction member who NJPW clearly doesn't seem to think needs an excursion can only be a good sign. If Fujita is anything to go by he'll be challenging for belts soon.

@SmarkInfested I wish that once they found their unit they'd be allowed to actually win. Nagai has been with LIJ/UC for months now and is still nowhere higher in the pecking order.

NJPW seems to have changed how they approach Young Lions. Ever since I've been watching YL's have been nondescript and part of Hontai, nothing more, and they only became something after excursion. Now they all get adopted into factions or by respected seniors pretty quickly.

@JonXavierWIN Ah, it's not that I need him in the upper card. It's more that I don't like seeing him in matches with guys like Honma and Henare because it makes me not want to watch.

Like the several times they had Shota walk out there to challenge or get challenged before. And then they get the exciting title match and it happens to be in Osaka. NJPW doesn't seem to think

Clearly they were unprepared for how over that match would get and [weirdly] unprepared for how over KOB in general was. I do think them resisting giving him an easy consolation tag belt reign was smart.

@morningpuroresu @MayhemSkully And them putting Shota w/HoT heels is exactly my problem. They misunderstand people's issue w/him it's not that he needs sympathy, he needs respect. You don't get respect against HoT, you get that with hard hitting matches that are full of fire. Not whatever the Chase match was.

@morningpuroresu @MayhemSkully Those are all either really good seniors who are going to work their ass off for the young guy they're opposite - even someone like ELP, who not everyone likes - or guys who are going to give their opponent violent, hard-hitting, exciting matches. Chase and Yujiro do neither.

@morningpuroresu @MayhemSkully All the other young guys get hard-hitting, exciting matches for their first round matches in the cup. Shota gets Chase and Yujiro, the latter of which is only good because the wrestlers add an emotional story element to it. NJPW still make it unnecessarily difficult.

@morningpuroresu @MayhemSkully Shota gets over in his team with Yuya, they send them out way too quickly after KOB vs Oiwa/ZSJ concludes and have Shota take the lead in the promo, leading to boos. Shota gets a huge boost after their match vs Taichi/Ishii, they have the challenge in Osaka, which boos him.

@thesuperjcast It IS very funny to see the sudden turn from people who I know I have blocked or muted because of their past Shota hate, though. Or the 'see, our hate was warranted and gave him the motivation to get better' takes that seem to be taking credit for Shota 'suddenly' being good.

@SmarkInfested @QuincySeven Outside of Boltin/ELP and Boltin/Yuya, not a single semi main on the 11 shows went 15+ outside of the two Shota matches. I think it absolutely had a reason to it

@MrSoze I think Young Lions should go on excursion when they either need a drastic character change - which is facilitated by being gone for a while - or more training/experience that ISN'T the usual NJPW grind. Guys like Fujita and Nagai, who are complete characters as they are, don't.

@SmarkInfested I totally agree with this and also like that it doesn't necessarily mean that every Lion has to go on excursion - Zack plucking Fujita right away to the crowd's delight stands out. Or Oiwa's excursion being to NOAH to stay in-country. If the crowd gets attached, let them stay!

@SmarkInfested @Peps_Wrestling I figured that was the Japanese fans' way of showing displeasure....by showing no reaction at all. Heck, most HoT at least gets a reaction, and many members (like Sho) have a cult following. Chase though, it's like they actively go out of their way to not respond to him.

@DeadStone12 I've been talking about the disastrous Shota booking for years. They keep putting him in difficult situations that are bound to get backlash, but they don't seem to realize it. Even this NJC other young guys received tense, hard-hitting opening matches while he got Chase/Yujiro

@SmarkInfested well first they cut his hair short cus he looked "too much like tanahashi" then they made him a weak link in WTL with ren, lose more, book him in the main event where he got booed, have him lose more. they made him either Ziggler or Mcintyre
