My favorite use case for AI lately? Excalidraw-style architecture diagrams. See a few recent ones attached here. I've been working through a backlog of customer case studies for @Streamkap and wanted visualizations to accompany them. Creating architecture diagrams that show before and after is a pain. I'm not great at it; it would have taken me like an hour per image. Then, I thought, let's see if nano-banana can handle this. Boy, can it ever. @GeminiApp Nano Banana Prompt: "Create an excalidraw style before and after diagram based on this case study." Then paste into the full text of the case study. Yet another Fivetran pricing change😵‍💫 It doesn't feel that long ago that I was writing about Fivetran's addition of connection fees to pricing... Well, here we are again. In a post earlier this year, I wrote about Monthly Active Rows (MAR) that, for all its failings as a billing metric, had one redeeming feature: "Rather than tracking total rows ingested, MAR tracked net new rows. They argued that these net new rows were the ones that actually added value." Deletes and updates to unique keys already used were not counted. While I argued that the net effect was that MAR was not customer-friendly, this was the silver lining. No longer, now you have to pay for all updates, so MAR is transparently a more expensive billing per row. If you're fed up, @Streamkap has straightforward billing, is typically 3x+ cheaper than Fivetran while delivering lower latency and better reliability.
