A4: I notice that they're keeping track of how many times they've counted with their fingers. I wonder if they feel ready to engage with a more efficient strategy. #ElemMathChat

OH! I love that they knew if the first row of 3s equaled 12, then the second row must also equal 12! #ElemMathChat

Not sure that I noticed the student doing much of anything, but I love that the early foundations of counting by ones and skip counting are represented here! It's easy to forget how foundational that is for multiplication. #ElemMathChat

@SuzanneSzilagyi @DDibley123 YES. I had to detangle myself from a grading culture that wanted some sort of number assigned to every little thing a student did. It's just not feasible. #ElemMathChat

A2 I agree with @DDibley123 That assessment should be happening all the time. My struggle is determining what to record, when to record and how to do it efficiently, without getting caught up in the weeds. #elemmathchat

A3: I notice a lot of threes and sixes, and not a lot of open space. I won't if the students are being asked to develop multiplicative thinking, and what the questions are that we can't see! #ElemMathChat
