@AshleyWenskTV This is more a knock on the state of the sport than about the selection committee… if you truly feel that you have a chance to beat a team that has the same seed as a team that beat you by 50+, then parity is non existent and something needs changed..

@Ky_3MW ^ and this is prob why all the analytics and SOS’s are so historically high nowadays.. You’re playing a top 15 team every week and top 50 teams in almost every single game… go back to smaller regional conferences!

@Ky_3MW .. but these aren’t conf’s anymore.. they’re big groupings of power teams..it’s not rare for a team to play 20+ gms vs teams tougher than some mid major’s top opp..Mia has to get in at 31-1, but it’s ridiculous now.. 17-16 in SEC is prob way better than 19-13 in SEC few yrs back

Would be unprecedented to give a team with 16 losses an at-large. Would also be unprecedented to give a team that’s 1 game over .500 an at-large.

@thepowerrank Def makes sense as it throws out recency bias and a few other factors, but if the betting line is available and hits at over 1% better than why not just use that?

@RobDauster @HoopsWeiss But on the flip side.. i still feel that Valpo 15-16 team would’ve done some serious damage in NCAAs but got overlooked by some big conf also rans… so you can always make an argument either way

@RobDauster @HoopsWeiss I def lean towards the Mid majors in these situations, but you can find tons of examples to support either side.. especially if the team feels disrespected.. Just off the top of my head… UCLA, Oregon State., NC st all made recent runs….

In 23-24, Yale finished 90th in KenPom, which would have them 10th in the Big East. Then Yale, as a 13 seed, knocked off Auburn in the first round of the tournament. That same year, a bad Virginia team was let into the play-in game because they had a good record in a power league and they lost by roughly a million to Colorado State. I'm just saying.

@FezzikSports While you’re 100% correct that the bet has a bad ROI… a lot of the times when these underdog teams make big runs in tourney, they usually run into 1 or 2 other double digit seeds

And heck give them a 1/2 chance to win rd 1 1/3 rd 2 3 1/4 rd 4,5, 6 Those are WILDLY OPTIMISTIC numbers 1/2 x 1/3 x 1/3 x 1/4 = 1/64 to make the Final 4 (note, this is WILDLY optimist, it's much lower) 1/64 x 1/4 x 1/4 = 1/1024 to win it all So given the most INCREDIBLE favorable assumptions, this bet has an ROI of more than -50%. I Their true odds are likely way worse than 1024-1 more like 2500-1.
