I was reading something that mentioned the Wahlund effect and looked up the original paper (onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.111…). I'm a bit surprised I can't find an English translation of it. It's nearly a century old now! Maybe someone on here is aware of one @arvidagren @zachbbionerd ?

@NKWhiteman For mycology, Meredith Blackwell has been organizing this for a couple of years. She arranges the interviews to happen during conferences, so travel costs are minimal

Sajeewa Maharachchikumbura was awarded Keisuke Tubaki medal for the most outstanding early career mycologist in Asia.

Two researchers from Africa can't attend due to lack of funding. Its brought up that #IMA could help out with those funds. The new chair, Stadler (guy on his phone all the ceremony) ends the Congress with the words 'I don't want to hear Africans complain'. #IMC12 Nice ending...

@e_hannula @Team_Thomma I do wonder if these practises have unintended consequences. Senior scientists have lots of results from their labs, and so can produce more convincing abstracts. Grad students submitting abstracts months in advance often dont have the results yet for specific claims

@Team_Thomma No, it is not. Noted the same, and I am quite disappointed about it. There were a lot of great posters out there by many talented ECRs that should and could have been invited for presentations. To be fair, for contributed talks, the chairs did select them without seeing names...
