I have been thinking about this for a while, ever since I saw the post from @spiritofshankly.
Why do Liverpool fans have to constantly fight for the right to see their heroes play the beautiful game?
Watching this team has always been a working class pastime in Liverpool, and its these games that many people live and die for. Its a game that many save all year round to buy a season ticket for so that they can have time to escape that normal slog of our working week and be around like minded people all with one focus, one goal, the win.
Its a game that of a weekend we go and play with our friends and risk broken bones to win, if you have children you might spend time in cold fields encouraging our kids to push on and play their little hearts out or stand on the sidelines planning your next tactical change.
These things are alien to businessmen that purchase our clubs with pound signs in their eyes, they are focussed on making money from the average Joe in anyway they can. They appease us sometimes but when the bottom line is looming low they strike at the very heart of our sport, the fans.
For a long time we have accepted it as the prices go up everywhere, food, petrol and it feels like everything else. But what do you do when the thing you do to escape these money worries is taken out of your price range?
As @spiritofshankly has said, you stand. You show the owners what this team means to you, for when they go you will still be here supporting your team. You are the people making this team financially secure, you stop buying shirts, you stop purchasing tickets and you stop buying anything from the stadium. But you never stop loving this team.
That is why when the owners do these things it hits hard, it makes us feel hurt.
I am a supporter that over the years has been called plastic, I am not from Liverpool but I have family links. But one thing I am, is loyal. I understand where the local fans are coming from, I understand how much it means to them. I sit at home singing along and getting excited over every shot, worried over every shot against us.
The one thing I will do from my armchair is support the supporters in any way I can. Please support them and do what you can to show these businessmen (Not supporters) that the heart of this club is ours, and its not something you can buy.
