The astrophage space scene in ‘PROJECT HAIL MARY’ was created by tiny LEDs placed on chicken wire that were used while pouring water in front of the lens to refract the light.
It was then shot with an Alexa LF camera with the infrared filter removed.

@Raflamar120719 @DiscussingFilm CGI is real art. Hell I’d say there’s more effort in the CG angles than this chicken wire closeup. It’s a neat trick, but the full shot is an insane amount of effort to make by a full team.
