while a lot of the muscles bungie has developed helped them with marathon, i do think the much more limited scope of the game is its strength and why we should hope that it can keep a strong niche, as oxymoronic as it sounds. widening that cannibalizes destiny

Marathon will likely continue to wean away from being solely an extraction shooter (i.e. the BR style sponsored kit experimental playlist). Halo had campaign, sweaty PvP and social PvP/forge. Destiny had strikes/RaDs, Crucible and Gambit (lolz). If Marathon is to be a 10 year franchise, then it must follow the success patterns of Bungies predecessors. Extraction should be just one pillar of a more in depth universe of player options.

@M4liceTTV @delmontyb No... we want Marathon with PvE Content. Gear up in Sponsored Kit Lobbies and use the gear in Challenging PvE Endgame Activities or Ranked PvP... Or yah know, you can keep it how it is and just watch the player base get smaller and smaller. 🤔

@M4liceTTV @delmontyb Have you ever played a Destiny Dungeon or Nightfall Strike? They could turn cryo into something harder like a Destiny Dungeon/Nightfall Strikr for PvE gamers and keep it as it is now for Ranked PvP lobbies.

absolutely kills me how a game comes out with uncompromising vision and style and all motherfuckers want its dev team to do is have them add things like other games to it. homoginization of games, films, etc demanded by "fans" is such destructive force to creative arts.

@StadiaTime For some reason I have a feeling creating a new item is easier to code than turning an existing item into a new item that converts into a different item after you use it... but that's just my guess

Just a noon-o’clock idea, but personally I would have done something like this instead of adding two new items; 1. Instead of having to drop a self-revive kit for an enemy player to revive themselves, you can simply just interact with a downed enemy player to revive them (like the mercy kit works now) 2. Reviving a downed enemy player doesn’t consume the entire kit, it revives them then turns it into a depleted self-revive kit which you can still use on yourself within that match (is removed on exfil like the other depleted items) 3. Reviving an enemy player either gives them a lasting debuff or gives YOU a substantial BUFF to incentivize/reward reviving players I feel like this would simplify the amount of items in the game and make reviving enemy players more than just a meme option. Gimme something for choosing to add a player back to the dart board lol

You might not like it, but the trend forward isn't full Kit bubble shield spam... it's looking like you start with different tiered sponsor kits and the PvE mode is close behind

@notAyker The worst thing is trying to play and sitting in Matchmaking for 10-20 minutes if it isn't Peak Hours. They need a PvE mode with no matchmaking soon or the game will literally be unplayable.

@PaulTassi @Forbes Lack of Meaningful PvE Content. Extraction Shooters are fun, but not because of PvP... Division Dark Zone perfected Extraction Shooters a decade ago... Rogue Agents that become marked to the entire server. Or Survival Mode. Start with nothing and loot to survive and extract

@giancar73012035 Or, they can just make every map Free Kit... Then make Cryo PvE only so you can use the good gear you find on the Extraction maps for Challenging Endgame PvE Content. Or bring it into Ranked for PvP gamers.

@PaulTassi Next step... PvE only Cryo to use all the gear you get doing Free Kit runs on Perimeter, Marsh and Outpost. Ranked will be the Geared PvP option for the Twitch streamers who want to farm each other for views.

Knew that was a risk to post but if I can do a joke time-out, I do think it's somewhat significant that one of the game's more fun modes (subjective) relies on just...not really being an extraction shooter. Even playing field, you do loot, but can't use the loot you get. PvPvE BR with a different end state, really. I know a lot of people like Marathon for what it is, but I think people would have liked Marathon, the world, the gameplay, in a lot of different forms or genres, and extraction may have been one of the more limiting ones but no, no big BR spinoff coming, of course

Dire Marsh Sponsored is an interesting idea that could be iterated on: - higher tiers of weapons and armor drop much more often to make looting more fun, but they're restricted so you can't take them with you - lower cooldowns for class abilities to make combat more frenetic and exciting - some sort of system to herd players closer together for more fights over time, a radiation cloud closing, something like that - maybe only one team extracts from a final zone after all the other teams are dead, and if they do, they get a lot more XP and rep, even if they have to give up that higher tier gear and start over with nothing - then you load in and do it all again! Now that sounds like a hit concept to me

@Yin_NGMI @dillonatm At this point the 3 base maps should always be sponsored and make ranked mode the geared option... Make Cryo PvE only outside of Ranked. Gear up on free kits and use the gear in Ranked PvP matches or Cryo runs.

@Ca5torTr0y @PaulTassi I tried to play... couldn't find a match with crossplay off... Turned Crossplay on, still couldn't find a match... this is a "Peak Hours" only game already. If there was a PvE mode I could play whenever I want, regardless of Player Count...

If you enter Outpost and every team dies before you find them do you just sprint to exfil without fighting the warden and clearing pinwheel? If you die and lose everything to UESC does it not count because it wasn't PvP?

@vesseloftauceti It's really only beneficial to solos. Fill teammates die and disconnect and then you get zero commendations for completing your own quest solo anyways.

My initial thoughts on the little amount of time I played the C.A.R.R.I. event yesterday, I don’t think this is going to entice hardcore players/pure PvP players to help newer players in Marathon to complete their contracts and work together. I think it’s going to be a continuing trend of dedicated players just stomping on new players.

@CoolRunnersClub Comp PvP is fine,and sometimes I actually enjoy it, however, they desperately need to create a distinguishable difference between Ranked and Regular modes. Much less teams on regular maps, perhaps a PvE mode and funnel the competitive PvP experience into high pop Ranked maps.

I figured it out. the “challenge” for Marathon isn’t new, or unique. it’s simple - modern FPS gamers are insanely skilled! when he said Arc, I realized it just doesn’t have the same skill gaps as a FPS does. all the Halo/CoD/Destiny/Apex players came in ready to COOK, on day 1.
