@antumbral In rare cases, it includes characters who keep insisting they're male while treated as a girl, like Hideyoshi from Bakatest.

@antumbral They just happen to be mistaken for girls, be it because they just like crossdressing or because they just look girly.

@antumbral 男の娘 stories don't focus on drama involving their gender identities. The characters are male and generally completely accept that.

@antumbral Until we've invented another word for it, translating 男の娘 as anything but trap is inaccurate.

@antumbral But this isn't about whether the word 'trap' is what we SHOULD use in English; it's what we DO use for this specific scenario.

@antumbral It's not the girl trapping someone, it's the author. The "girl" is the trap set up by the creator.

@antumbral I'm not sure if you're unfamiliar with the term 男の娘 or the term 'trap', but they're both used in the exact same way.

@antumbral Furthermore, it was published in a specific 男の娘 magazine. It's a pretty clear case of pandering to a specific fetish.
