16/ So yes, mock the ignorance, it is appalling. But let’s not fail to organise against the project behind it: historical amnesia, migrant scapegoating, and protection of monopoly power. Memory is a class struggle terrain.

9/ Meanwhile, ~1,800 qualified junior doctors sit unemployed while hospitals overflow. Not “foreigners’ fault” - it’s budget choices and a system designed to fail the poor while subsidising private profit.

8/ Let’s talk healthcare scapegoating. Migrants didn’t collapse public health. Corruption, austerity & privatisation did. Example: R2bn looted at Tembisa Hospital. R122m in kickbacks. That alone could fund staff & beds that our clinics desperately need.

7/ Another lie exposed: “Exiles were in refugee camps.” No. While MK/APLA had military camps, the majority of exiles lived, worked & studied across Africa and beyond - building a diaspora that sustained the struggle. Anti-intellectualism is a tool of amnesia.

6/ The erasure is political. If people remember the price of solidarity, they’ll ask hard questions: • Where are reparations from corporations & Western backers of apartheid? • Why do we still protect monopoly capital? • Why reward those who armed & funded destabilisation?

5/ So when today’s xenophobes scapegoat African migrants, they spit on a debt of blood. South Africa owes the region for the immense sacrifices made in the name of our freedom, not the other way round. Our freedom sits on foundations our neighbours paid for.
