A combo of southwesterly winds and good ol’ downsloping/compressional heating is gonna send temps rocketing into the upper 80s to mid 90s, hottest in southern Colorado and southwest Kansas. Western Slope, you’re hanging out in the mid to upper 80s. A strong cold front is knocking on the door from the north, so we’ll squeeze out a little instability ahead of it. That means a few extra clouds this afternoon, maybe some high based showers, and even a rogue thunderstorm up on the Cheyenne Ridge, far northern Colorado, southeast Wyoming, and the Nebrasky Pandyhandle. Translation: not much rain, but enough chaos to keep things interesting. And with gusty southwest winds mixing in… yeah, high fire danger. I know I sound like a broken record, but PLEASE don’t be a dumb dumb. 🔥 Thursday = temperature drama 🎭 That front moves through Thursday morning from north to south, and we’re gonna have a wild temperature gradient depending on which side you’re on: Northern CO / WY / NE (behind the front): 60s–70s Far southern CO (near Hwy 50, ahead of the front): upper 80s to low 90s Western Slope: low to mid 80s Winds flip easterly/northeasterly behind the front, bringing in a little upslope. That could squeeze out a few showers along the I-25 corridor and foothills, but moisture is limited, so don’t expect widespread coverage. Eastern plains likely stay mostly left out, but I’m watching it closely.
